Job summary

Austin Industries' Equipment Yard in Phoenix, AZ seeks an experienced Field Service Technician/Mechanic to diagnose and repair motorized equipment on project sites. You'll work on cranes, forklifts, trucks and other vehicles, performing field diagnostics, tests and repairs to keep equipment safe and productive.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, tuning, documenting service notes, and coordinating with the equipment manager to prioritize repairs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; or 1–3 years related mechanic experience.
  • Experience diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical failures.
  • Ability to read service manuals and schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles, sets up, maintains and repairs all types of construction equipment and vehicles.
  • Performs field diagnostics to identify failures and determine repair solutions and costs.
  • Tests and repairs fuel, braking, cooling, and drivetrain systems; coordinates with outside vendors when needed.
  • Maintains accurate service documentation and coordinates with equipment manager on priorities.

Our Austin Equipment Yard has an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Field Service Technician/Mechanic based in Phoenix, Arizona. This position is responsible for diagnosing mechanical failures and makes needed repairs to motorized equipment, such as cranes, forklifts, tractors, tractor components, trucks, and other vehicles on various project sites.

Responsibilities
  • Assembles, sets up, adjusts, maintains and repairs all types of construction equipment, cranes and related vehicles
  • May perform the duties of a welder in repair of equipment
  • Perform field diagnostics to identify mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical failures and determine appropriate repair solutions and cost of repairs
  • Tests, repairs or installs mechanical units, such as water pumps, fuel pumps, governors, distributors, carburetor systems, brakes, clutches and other such devices
  • Remove engines, transmissions, and major components and coordinate with outside vendors when specialized repairs are required
  • Install new or repaired engines, transmissions, and mechanical components back into equipment or vehicles
  • Perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient equipment operation
  • Conduct minor tune‑ups and adjustments to optimize performance and extend equipment service life
  • Test mechanical systems such as fuel systems, cooling systems, braking systems, and drivetrain components to verify proper operation
  • Complete accurate service documentation, repair notes, and inspection records for all work performed
  • Coordinate with equipment manager and field personnel regarding repair status, priorities, and equipment availability
  • Ensure all work complies with company policies, OSHA standards, manufacturer specifications, and jobsite safety requirements
  • Maintain tools, service vehicles, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of equipment and field operations
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related mechanic experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience supporting construction or industrial equipment
  • Proven mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills on cranes, forklifts, tractors, trucks, and heavy construction equipment
  • Experience performing diagnostics and repairs in field environments across multiple job sites, often with limited supervision
  • Working knowledge of engines, transmissions, fuel systems, braking systems, cooling systems, and drivetrain components
  • Welding and fabrication experience preferred for equipment repair and modification
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, diagnostic readouts, and manufacturer technical documentation
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with equipment manager and jobsite personnel
  • Self‑motivated and dependable with the ability to prioritize repairs and manage multiple service calls
Requirements
  • High school diploma, GED, or vocational training/certification
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Requires working outdoors at times in the rain or snow and during cold, warm, and hot temperatures
  • Physical ability to perform field repair work, including lifting, climbing on equipment, bending, and working in outdoor environments
  • Must be able to work hours adjusted to meet the project’s needs; days, nights and weekends
  • For safety reasons, it is imperative that the employee be able to read and speak fluent English
