Job summary

Viridan Group is seeking a field service technician to manage two sites in Texas. The role supports commissioning, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), PCS, batteries, and related equipment.

The position is full-time with a plan to convert from contract to permanent in 2027. Travel up to 80% is required, with per diem and overtime mentioned as part of the compensation package.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years in a technical field.
• Minimum 5 years with Power Conversion Systems or related renewable energy equipment.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean record.

Responsibilities

• Install, operate, test, commission, and maintain BESS equipment.
• Support commissioning, energization, switching, and start‑up activities.
• Troubleshoot PCS, batteries, controls, SCADA, and communications systems.
• Perform firmware updates and diagnostics on hardware.
• Coordinate with customers and engineering teams to ensure safe plant operation.
• Lead field rework and escalation of technical issues as needed.

Job description

Viridan Group is working with a leading energy storage owner and IPP looking for a field service technician. The technician will manage two sites in Texas. This role supports the commissioning, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of utility-scale battery energy storage systems, including PCS, batteries, substations, fire alarm control panels, cabinet‑level HVAC, SCADA, and communications equipment.

This is a full-time role that will start as a contract position before moving to a permanent hire in Q1 2027. The benefits package includes hourly pay, per diem, overtime, mileage, and other benefits.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform technical assignments involving installation, operation, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and corrective maintenance of BESS equipment.
• Support hot and cold commissioning, pre‑commissioning, energization, de‑energization, switching, clearance, and start‑up activities.
• Troubleshoot and repair PCSs, batteries, controls, SCADA, communications systems, and ancillary equipment.
• Perform firmware and software updates, hardware upgrades, battery charging and discharging activities, SOC checks, and component‑level diagnostics.
• Investigate plant performance issues, PCS issues, utility grid transients, equipment alarms, and BESS system faults.
• Interpret schematics, blueprints, technical manuals, test procedures, work orders, and OEM maintenance requirements.
• Prepare Preventive Maintenance plans and worklists from OEM manuals and EPC information.
• Coordinate with customers, contractors, SCADA engineers, Asset Managers, logistics, finance, engineering, commercial teams, and program management teams to support safe and reliable plant operations.
• Lead or support field rework, upgrade, and troubleshooting projects while communicating technical scope, schedule, and progress to stakeholders.
• Submit EPC and OEM warranty claims as needed.
• Ensure contractors follow site standards, submit required reports, and perform work in accordance with company expectations.
• Support compliance with applicable safety and environmental regulations, including OSHA and NFPA 70E and 22 requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 7 years of overall experience in a technical field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience working with Power Conversion Systems, battery energy storage systems, power electronics, electrical systems, or related renewable energy equipment.
• Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical fundamentals, including electrical measurements, control circuits, basic troubleshooting, and equipment operating characteristics.
• Ability to use test equipment, hand tools, power tools, and standard field service equipment safely and effectively.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Preferred

• Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) experience.
• Experience with utility‑scale BESS, substations, MV transformers, Power Conversion Systems from EPCP, Samsung, CATL, Fluence, SMA, Power Electronics, Sungrow, Eaton, TMEIC, Solectria, or similar equipment.
• OSHA 30 certification, or ability to obtain within 1 month of hire.
• NFPA 70E certification, or ability to obtain within 1 month of hire.

Travel

• Travel requirement is expected to be up to 80%, depending on project pipeline assignments, and corrective maintenance needs.
