Job summary

Valley Plains Equipment in Ellendale, ND, is seeking a Field Service Technician to provide on-site service and repair for customer equipment across a designated territory. You will diagnose issues using advanced technology, minimize downtime, and deliver exceptional customer support while working independently.

The role requires hands-on proficiency with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems; experience with diagnostic tools and Service ADVISOR is preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience performing service repairs.
• Experience with repairs using technical manuals on machines of the specialty.
• Proficient with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Experience operating vehicles and diagnostic tools.
• Proficiency with basic computer functions; Service ADVISOR or similar tools preferred.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostics and repairs on equipment and technology in the field.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of parts kept in stock on the service vehicle.
• Identify and communicate solutions for customer service opportunities within your area of responsibility.
• Accountable for billable time and assigned work orders.
• Responsible for complete and thorough documentation of diagnostics and repairs performed on work orders, ensuring timely submission of information.
• Participate in Service Training programs for skills and knowledge development.
• Operate and maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment required to perform job responsibilities.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
• Follow all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments.
• Stay current on knowledge of John Deere and competitive products.

• Proficient with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Experience operating vehicles, tools, and equipment for diagnostic purposes.
• Proficiency with basic computer functions; experience using Service ADVISOR™ or other computer-based diagnostic repair tools preferred.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Must have an adequate toolset to perform job responsibilities.
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

• John Deere Service Technician certification is preferred.
• Associate's degree preferred.
• Forklift license is preferred.
