Job summary

Mid-Atlantic Truck & Equipment in Clinton, Maryland is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to join the Compactor team. This hands-on role requires diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining compactors and related equipment in the field, using your hydraulics, electrical, welding, and mechanical skills.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing compactors.
  • Experience repairing heavy equipment or industrial machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and structural issues on compactors and related equipment.
  • Repair and replace motors, pumps, hydraulic cylinders, valves, controls, and other components.
  • Perform welding and fabrication work, including cutting and replacing chutes, guide rails, and other structural components.
  • Install and service equipment such as trash compactors, cardboard balers, and related systems at customer locations.
  • Use torches, cutting tools, welding equipment, and other shop/field tools to complete repairs and modifications.
  • Work independently in the field, assessing equipment issues, determining the appropriate repair, and seeing the job through to completion.
  • Follow required safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, fire watch, fall protection, and safe work practices.
  • Maintain accurate service and repair documentation and ensure equipment is returned to safe, reliable operating condition.
  • Work directly with customers and the service team to communicate equipment issues, repairs, and recommendations.

Field Service Technician – Compactor | Mid-Atlantic Truck & Equipment

Mid-Atlantic Truck & Equipment is looking for an experienced Field Service Technician to join our Compactor team.

This is a hands-on role for a technician who enjoys troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing equipment in the field. You’ll work on a variety of compactors and related equipment, putting your experience in hydraulics, electrical troubleshooting, welding, and mechanical repair to work every day.

From diagnosing hydraulic and electrical issues to repairing motors and pumps, fabricating chutes, and installing cardboard balers, the work is varied and requires someone who can think through problems and see a job through to completion.

As a Field Service Technician with our Compactor department, you’ll:

  • Compactor Experience: Hands-on experience servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing compactors is strongly preferred.
  • Equipment Repair: Experience repairing heavy equipment, vocational equipment, or industrial machinery.
  • Mechanical Skills: Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Hydraulic & Electrical: Experience troubleshooting hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Welding & Fabrication: Experience with welding, cutting, and basic fabrication.
  • Tools: Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, torches, and measuring equipment.
  • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Safety: Commitment to safe work practices and following required procedures.
  • Independence: Ability to work independently and troubleshoot issues in the field.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in tight or confined spaces as needed.
  • Comfortable working in varying indoor and outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to kneel, bend, squat, push, pull, and reach as needed.Ability to lift and move objects weighing 50+ lbs. independently.
  • Ability to safely enter and exit various vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of a DOT medical examination.

  • This position requires the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to safely perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Effective communication is necessary to understand and follow safety procedures and instructions, communicate with customers and team members, and complete required job‑related documentation.
