Job description

Electrical Power Generator - Field Service Tech

Department: Power Systems Division (PSD)

Location: Georgetown

This position is responsible for providing troubleshooting and high‑quality repair service on power generation, gas and diesel engines, and ATS (Automatic Transfer Switches). The role provides face‑to‑face customer service at off‑site locations and includes traveling throughout Texas with daily travel and overnight stays as required.

Essential Functions
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Performs basic to intermediate repairs and minimal troubleshooting offsite with minimal supervision.
  • Performs basic to intermediate troubleshooting and minimal diagnoses of equipment malfunctions and failures.
  • Removes and installs parts, disassembles and assembles components to CAT specifications.
  • Tests, makes adjustments, and verifies proper operation of all repairs and adjustments.
  • Prepares and completes all job‑related documents, writes service reports, orders parts, and maintains clear customer records; accesses required databases.
  • Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates.
  • Maintains service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections and driver logs as required by the Department of Transportation.
  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and vehicle in a good, clean, and working order.
  • Communicates job progress to supervisor and customer as needed.
  • Completes assigned jobs and tasks to meet flat‑rate time and re‑work standards.
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs.
  • Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner.
  • Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance; may be relied upon to act as a mentor to lower‑level technicians.
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • At least 3 years of field or shop service technician troubleshooting and repair experience with Electrical Power Generators.
  • At least 3 years of field or shop service technician troubleshooting and repair experience with Natural Gas and Diesel Engines.
  • At least 3 years of field or shop service technician troubleshooting and repair experience with ATS (Automatic Transfer Switches).
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving history.
  • Excellent customer service skills and effective written and verbal communication.
  • Owns required tools.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively with a high energy level.
  • Can work with limited supervision.
  • Available Monday‑Friday from 7 AM to 4 PM.
  • Available on‑call two weeks out of the month.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Travel

  • Travel required with a possibility of an overnight stay.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • An acceptable driving record.
  • Must own required tools to perform repairs.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lb.
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment.
  • Can maneuver safely and work underneath equipment.
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.

Work Environment

  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
  • Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts; noise level may be loud at times.
  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside, including inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity.
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, and high‑speed rotating equipment.
  • Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places.
