Job summary

Actalent in Sturgis, MI is seeking a Field Service Technician to install, service, troubleshoot, and repair custom industrial machinery at customer sites. The role involves significant travel (about 50%) across the U.S.

and internationally, with 6-12 months of training onsite in Sturgis. You will read blueprints, perform preventative maintenance, and support customers with on-site installations and upgrades.

Qualifications

Job Title: Field Service TechnicianJob Description

The Field Service Technician installs, services, troubleshoots, and repairs custom built industrial machinery, including electronic and hydraulic bending machines, tube cut-off machines, expanding machines, fin lines, and dies. The role involves frequent domestic and international travel to customer facilities, providing hands-on technical support, commissioning new equipment, performing maintenance and upgrades, and delivering on-site customer training.

**They operate with the stability and resources of a larger organization, while maintaining a close knit, family oriented culture, valuing collaboration, reliability, and strong customer relationships.

  • 50% travel in the U.S.
  • Typical trips 10 days at a time
  • Time and a half pay when on the road
  • All expenses paid
  • Will spend the first 6-12 months onsite in Sturgis for training
  • Typically 40-45 hour work weeks
Responsibilities
  • Install, assemble, and commission custom built industrial machinery at customer
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues
  • Perform preventive maintenance on machinery
  • Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, schematics, and basic wiring diagrams
  • Conduct machine upgrades and modifications as required, ensuring that all changes meet performance and safety standards.
  • Start up new equipment and verify that all systems function correctly
  • Provide hands on technical support and guidance to customers, answering questions and resolving operational issues on site
  • Maintain a strong customer service focus by communicating clearly & professionally
  • Follow all safety guidelines and best practices when working with heavy equipment, industrial machinery, electrical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics
Essential Skills
  • 35 years of experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial machinery
  • Hands on experience with machine building, machining, millwright work, tooling, or heavy equipment
  • Experience working with hydraulic, pneumatic equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work confidently with machining equipment and heavy machinery
  • Solid troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with customers and internal teams
  • Ability to work independently in the field, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing service demands
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently (approximately 50% domestic and international travel)
Work Environment

Work involves regular interaction with industrial machinery, heavy equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electrical systems in manufacturing and production environments, requiring adherence to safety standards and appropriate work attire suitable for industrial settings.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sturgis, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
