Job summary

Wabtec Corporation in the United States is seeking a Field Services Technician to support our customers by training and troubleshooting Nordco equipment at customer sites.

You will put new machines into service, perform on-site repairs, and work with engineering to resolve issues while maintaining strong customer relationships. Travel 70-80% is required, and a valid driver's license is essential.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent with at least 5 years as an industrial/mobile heavy equipment mechanic.
  • CanBus/PLC troubleshooting training preferred.
  • Ability to read schematics for pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Railroad experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Recommend repair parts and product improvements to customers.
  • Advise and train customers on maintenance and operation of Nordco equipment.
  • Prepare weekly travel expense records and field reports as required.
  • Work with engineering and/or production to solve problems with new machines.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of equipment and processes.
  • Ability to work independently and achieve effective rapport with customers.

Job Description
Who will you be working with?

You will be working directly with our Customers and Sales teams to ensure all machines are meeting our customer expectations.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Field Services team, you will be responsible for all troubleshooting and customer training on new and existing Roadway Work Equipment. You will put new machines into service, which will include training and demonstrating the new equipment at the customer’s site. You will repair existing equipment at the customer’s site, troubleshoot the machines and perform the necessary service, maintenance, and repairs to restore the equipment to proper operation.

What do we want to know about you?
  • High School diploma or equivalent along with a minimum of 5 years of experience as an industrial or mobile heavy equipment mechanic.
  • Associate’s degree a plus
  • PLC and/or CanBus systems troubleshooting training strongly preferred
  • General mechanical experience, extensive knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems including the ability to read schematics
  • Previous railroad experience a plus
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems.
  • Requires mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in different situations.
  • Ability to read and interpret business documents, technical procedures, schematics (12/24 governmental regulations and professional journals.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, suppliers and the public.
  • Ability to successfully work in an environment with diverse personalities and build strong customer relationships.
  • Must have a Valid Driver’s License
  • Travel =70%-80%

What about the physical demands of the job?

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment can be loud at times. Temperatures can range from extreme cold to extreme heat. Travel to remote job sites is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, climb, walk unassisted, sit and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
