Field Service Technician
Job Summary:
This is a combined job description for a Field Service Technician cross-trained in all scopes: firestopping, doors, and dampers.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Firestopping
- Inspect & repair fire/smoke barriers per NFPA/IBC/UL requirements.
- Read and interpret blueprints and life safety drawings.
- Document inspection and repair results using electronic reporting systems on a tablet.
- Provide detailed documentation for code compliance.
- Record specifications for materials needed for repairs.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on electrical, HVAC, and plumbing components.
- Install access doors in rated assemblies.
- Hang & repair drywall and install/repair wall assemblies (metal framing, gypsum, masonry).
- Load/unload project materials and equipment.
- Prepare surfaces and materials for application.
- Use hand tools (hammers, knives, chisels, pliers, screwdrivers, saws, drills, etc.).
- Maintain tools and equipment properly.
- Follow safety and infection control guidelines.
- Keep the job site clean.
- Communicate professionally and promptly with customers and staff.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Attend training sessions as required.
- Support other service lines as needed.
- Willingness to travel extensively.
Dampers
- Inspect fire dampers per NFPA 80 standards.
- Complete Remedi8’s training for Fire Damper Inspection per TMP-001 manual and ISO 17020:2012 standards.
- Document findings for customer compliance reporting.
- Maintain professional communication with customers and management.
- Perform other duties supporting this service line.
Doors
- Inspect fire-rated and smoke doors per NFPA 80.
- Complete Remedi8’s training for Fire Door Inspection per ISO 17020:2012 standards.
- Provide accurate reports for code compliance.
- Communicate effectively with customers before and after projects.
- Perform minor repairs on door hardware and frames to meet code.
- Repair holes, shim to correct clearances, and install hardware.
- Plan door replacements efficiently.
- Document repairs and order hardware as needed.
- Follow safety and infection control protocols.
- Support other service lines as required.
Requirements and Experience:
Firestop
- At least 1 year of firestop inspection, repair, and installation experience.
- Experience in drywall repair and installation.
- Fire caulking experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of iOS products and electronic reporting.
- Knowledge of life safety plans and NFPA standards.
- Hilti and STI certifications preferred but not required.
Dampers
- Ability to review inspection reports and approve for clients.
- Ability to read and follow Life Safety Plans (LSPs).
- Knowledge of tools, maintenance, and calibration.
- Ability to follow inspection procedures and document deficiencies.
- Customer service experience.
- Self-motivated and efficient work ethic.
- Good record-keeping skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with smartphones, tablets, and Microsoft Office.
Doors
- Proficiency with reporting tools and software.
- Ability to troubleshoot on-site emergencies.
- Understanding of LSPs and self-directed work.
- High attention to detail.
- Knowledge of tools and calibration equipment.
- Experience in customer service.
- Knowledge of Word, Outlook, Excel.
- Self-starter with good listening skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Good record-keeping of repair work.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, handle objects, reach, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, twist, bend, and reach.
- Work in confined spaces and on ladders for extended periods.
- Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Extended hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends, may be required.

- Valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to travel up to 100% depending on market needs.
