Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, service, and repair mobile rock crushing equipment, conveyors, and related systems.

• Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in safe, serviceable condition.

Field Service Technician

Keeps customer equipment running safely and reliably through responsive field service. DEPARTMENT Service REPORTS TO Service Manager LOCATION Assigned Goodfellow

Position Purpose

The Field Service Technician sets up, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and tears down customer equipment, with a primary focus on mobile rock crushing equipment, conveyors, and related systems. This position works directly at customer sites to minimize downtime, support safe equipment operation, and provide responsive technical service. The technician also instructs customers on proper equipment use and works closely with Service, Parts, Sales, manufacturers, and technical support to strengthen customer relationships.

Responsibilities

Diagnose, Repair and Maintain Equipment

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, service, and repair mobile rock crushing equipment, conveyors, and related systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled service to improve equipment reliability and reduce customer downtime.
• Repair or replace conveyor belts, steel hoppers, wear components, and other mechanical components as required.
• Perform basic welding and fabrication repairs in the field as needed.
• Read and interpret basic electrical and hydraulic schematics to assist with equipment diagnosis and repair.
• Use calipers, feeler gauges, tape measures, and other measuring tools accurately when inspecting or repairing equipment.

Set Up Equipment and Support Customers

• Set up, commission, relocate, and tear down crushing plant equipment and related systems at customer locations.
• Instruct customers on the safe and proper operation of rented or purchased equipment.
• Communicate clearly with customers regarding equipment condition, repairs, service recommendations, and next steps.
• Coordinate with Goodfellow Service, Parts, Sales, and manufacturer technical support to resolve equipment issues efficiently.
• Support customer relationships by providing professional, responsive, and solutions-focused field service.

Document and Maintain Field Operations

• Document service work, repairs, parts used, equipment condition, and other required information accurately and promptly.
• Maintain assigned tools, service equipment, and company vehicle in clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
• Maintain required vehicle documentation and comply with applicable company and DOT requirements when operating company vehicles.
• Prioritize field assignments and communicate delays, additional repair needs, or unresolved technical concerns promptly.

Own Safety and Compliance

• Follow all Goodfellow safety policies, customer-site rules, and applicable OSHA, MSHA, and DOT requirements.
• Work safely in above-ground mines, rock quarries, aggregate operations, and other industrial environments.
• Use required personal protective equipment and follow safe work practices around heavy equipment, stored energy, elevated work, and moving machinery.
• Identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, and incidents promptly; stop work when conditions cannot be safely controlled.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Valid driver's license and driving record that meets company requirements.
• Hands-on mechanical experience with heavy equipment, industrial equipment, crushing equipment, conveyors, or similar machinery.
• Basic welding and fabrication experience.
• Ability to understand basic electrical and hydraulic schematics.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, measuring tools, and equipment required for field service work.
• Clear customer communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in the field.
• Previous aggregate, crushing and screening, mining, construction, heavy-equipment, or MSHA experience is highly valued.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This position is performed primarily in the field at customer locations, including aggregate operations, rock quarries, above-ground mining sites, construction or industrial sites, and equipment yards. Work may involve heavy equipment, moving machinery, dust, dirt, noise, weather, uneven terrain, grease, oils, and other industrial conditions. The employee must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, reach, push, pull, work around heavy equipment, and safely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Required personal protective equipment must be worn.

Travel and Schedule

Regular travel within the assigned service area is required. Overnight travel may be necessary depending on customer needs and field assignments; trips are generally fewer than five days at a time. Work schedules may vary based on service demand and may include extended hours. Field service technicians should be prepared for approximately 40-60 hours per week when business needs require, with schedules varying by assignment.

Safety and Compliance

Safety is an essential responsibility of this position. The Field Service Technician must maintain required training and qualifications, follow company and customer-site procedures, use required PPE, comply with applicable OSHA, MSHA, and DOT requirements, and report hazards or unsafe conditions promptly.
