Job summary

Smith & Loveless is seeking a Field Service Technician to join our field services team, partnering on site with clients to install, startup and troubleshoot S&L equipment, focusing on wastewater and pumping systems.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and 2–4 years of equipment servicing and troubleshooting experience, with strong electrical/mechanical skills. Expect about 70% travel and a comprehensive benefits package with retirement plans.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2–4 years of equipment servicing and troubleshooting experience.
  • Working knowledge of pumping equipment, water treatment equipment, and controls.
  • Mechanical experience with tools and piping, gaskets, and gears.
  • Electrical experience in relay logic, PLCs, high voltage, and schematics.
  • PLC coding skills a plus.
  • Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (about 70% annually).
  • Valid driver’s license and U.S. passport (or ability to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Start up and troubleshoot S&L equipment in the field.
  • Communicate with customer/site personnel and S&L teams during start-up and troubleshooting.
  • Train customer personnel in operation and maintenance of S&L equipment.
  • Prepare detailed field reports describing equipment problems or issues.
  • Complete expense and start-up reports in a timely fashion.
  • Act as a technical resource for internal departments and customers.
  • Assist with training new field service engineers in the field.
  • Work to minimize warranty and back charges while keeping startups within cost.
  • Maintain neat and clean work areas, storage areas, and vehicles.

In addition to the factory's support, their previous technical knowledge and experience will become essential to help troubleshoot and resolve our client’s needs. Some college or technical school preferred.2 – 4 years’ experience in equipment servicing and troubleshooting.Working knowledge of pumping equipment, water treatment equipment, and controls preferred.Mechanical experience with tools and assembly piping, gaskets, and gears preferred.Electrical experience in relay logic, PLCs high voltage, and schematics preferred. Coding skills for PLC’s and control panels a PLUS.Good oral and written communication.Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.Good customer service skills with accuracy and follow through.Able to read and understand blueprints and wiring diagrams.Excellent troubleshooting skills (electrical & mechanical) with ability to work independently.Must have valid driver’s license and U.S. passport (or ability to possess a passport)Physical requirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
