Company Overview:

Energy Control is a field service controls company that has been in business since 2001. We provide scheduled service and emergency support in Industrial Boiler Rooms and Power Plants, specializing in watertube and firetube boilers, burners, and control systems. We also offer turnkey design-build controls solutions and service what we sell.

Position Overview:

This position is for a Field Service Technician with both mechanical and electrical expertise. The ideal candidate will calibrate and replace field devices, as well as perform general electrical and burner troubleshooting. Individuals without prior field service experience need not apply. Understanding DC controls is a must, and candidates must be able to understand electrical drawings and P&IDs. Understanding Combustion and Control Loops is a plus.

We typically service North/Central New Jersey and New York City. A valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required, and a company service vehicle will be provided after a probationary and training period.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Be presentable and meet with customers to listen, understand, and provide support for equipment problems.
  2. Perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and calibration on transmitters, switches, valves, and damper drives.
  3. Perform device replacement, testing, and commissioning tasks.
  4. Work safely and provide satisfactory clean-up and housekeeping.
  5. Follow up with customers and provide a detailed service report, discuss a general summary, and determine if follow-up is required.
  6. Upload documentation to the office, providing feedback for future follow-up, equipment ordering, and scheduling.

Expectations:

  1. Fluency in English (written and verbal skills).
  2. Prior field service experience in a technician role.
  3. Safety-oriented mindset.
  4. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  5. Ability to read electrical line and loop diagrams.
  6. Ability to follow instructions.
  7. Understanding of 4-20mA analog electrical signals.
  8. Understanding of 3-15psig pneumatic signals and electrical I/P transducers.
  9. Knowledge of 120 VAC Control Signals.
  10. Ability to read and understand electrical prints and ladder logic diagrams.
  11. Ability to read gauges.
  12. Participate in internal knowledge sharing.
  13. Tolerance for loud environments with occasional temperature extremes.
  14. Experience in Combustion Tuning is a plus.

Previous Work Experience Preferred:

  1. Experience in a commercial or industrial setting working on control systems.
  2. Commercial or industrial HVAC experience.
  3. Auto Technician or Electrical Technician with experience in an industrial and/or commercial setting.

Minimum Education/Certification and Other Requirements:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent AND one of the following:
  2. Technical degree/certificate.
  3. Associate’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering technology.
  4. 3-5 years relevant field experience.

Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is required. Must be a US Citizen.

Physical Demands/Unusual Working Conditions:

95% of work involves site visits to customers within 30 minutes to 1-1/2 hours away in NJ and NYC. Most site work is indoors within Industrial Boiler Rooms and Power Plants in Hospitals, Pharmaceutical, Chemical, and Manufacturing Companies. Some work may be outdoors at Cogen Facilities. Must be willing to be on call to respond to emergency service calls.

Computer Skills:

Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook are required. PLC or blockware experience is a plus.
