Job summary

Fairbanks Morse Defense in Chesapeake, VA seeks a Service Supervisor to lead field service technicians, manage multiple service jobs, and ensure on-time, safe, high-quality execution.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Diesel Engine Technology or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Coursework in Project Management or supervision preferred.
• Minimum six years of industry or military experience on medium-speed diesel engines.
• Four years as FM Field Service Technician preferred.
• Three years in a supervisory role within a service environment preferred.
• Foundational knowledge of pneumatic systems, PLCs, and electronic engine controls.
• Familiarity with Fairbanks Morse engine products.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects/priorities.
• Collaborative, team-first leadership.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.
• MS Word, Excel, and Project proficiency; ERP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and manage field service activities to optimize labor and schedules.
• Coordinate multiple service jobs and projects ensuring scope and schedule alignment.
• Partner with Project Managers to plan, execute, and track large service projects.
• Serve as the primary coordination point for field execution, aligning manpower and logistics.
• Coordinate with Quality Manager on PCPs and TI documentation.
• Review daily service reports and feedback from Tech Reps.
• Schedule, dispatch, and monitor Tech Reps balancing demand and availability.
• Review and approve timecards and expenses for all Tech Reps.
• Monitor progress, identify risks, and communicate status to stakeholders.
• Develop annual training and development plans for technical and leadership growth.
• Motivate, mentor, and coach employees to deliver superior service.
• Assist with staffing decisions and hiring processes.
• Conduct performance assessments and improvement plans as needed.
• Promote a strong safety culture.
• Develop standard work documentation and labor standards.
• Drive productivity improvements through training and tools.
• Assist with quoting and estimating service jobs including labor forecasting.
• Support closeout activities with documentation and continuous improvement feedback.
