The role focuses on maintaining mission-critical RF equipment including radios, antennas, repeaters, power systems, and related infrastructure across public safety, utilities, transportation, and commercial environments. Travel to customer sites is required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years hands-on RF field service experience as an RF/Radio Technician.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing two-way radio systems, not just IT or cabling.
• Strong understanding of RF fundamentals: propagation, antennas, repeaters, and power.

Responsibilities

Job description

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a hands‑on Field Service RF Technician to support the installation, programming, troubleshooting, and repair of two‑way radio communications systems throughout the St. Paul, MN area. This role focuses on maintaining mission‑critical RF equipment including radios, repeaters, antennas, and power systems across public safety, government, utilities, transportation, and commercial communications environments. The ideal candidate is a true RF technician with experience diagnosing and repairing radio systems rather than purely performing IT, networking, or low‑voltage work.

Work Environment:

Field‑based role supporting customer telecommunications sites throughout the St. Paul region. This position requires regular travel to customer locations and hands‑on troubleshooting of mission‑critical radio communications systems.

Responsibilities:

• Diagnose, repair, program, and maintain two‑way radio communications systems.
• Troubleshoot RF communications issues involving radios, antennas, repeaters, duplexers, power supplies, and related infrastructure.
• Program subscriber radios and modify codeplugs to support multi‑channel, multi‑zone, and trunked radio environments.
• Perform system testing, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs on customer communications systems.
• Configure and troubleshoot RF equipment to ensure reliable field performance.
• Support installation, upgrades, and migrations of radio communications equipment.
• Identify hardware failures, RF coverage issues, interference concerns, and equipment degradation.
• Document service activities, repair actions, and system configurations.
• Provide on‑site customer support and technical assistance across multiple telecommunications sites.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of hands‑on experience as a RF Technician, Radio Technician, or Field Service RF Technician.
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing two‑way radio systems, not solely IT, networking, telecom cabling, or low‑voltage systems.
• Strong understanding of RF fundamentals including propagation, signal flow, antennas, repeaters, and radio communications equipment.
• Experience programming land mobile radio (LMR) systems and configuring subscriber radios.
• Experience creating and modifying codeplugs with:
  • 12+ channel configurations
  • Multiple zones
  • Trunked radio systems
• Experience diagnosing issues with:
  • Mobile radios
  • Portable radios
  • Repeaters
  • Antennas
  • Power supplies
  • RF infrastructure equipment
• Strong troubleshooting and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently in field environments.

Preferred:

• Experience with Motorola, Kenwood, Harris, Tait, BK Technologies, or similar radio platforms.
• Background supporting public safety, utilities, transportation, government, or industrial communications systems.
• Experience with P25, trunking systems, and mission‑critical communications environments.
• Familiarity with service monitors, spectrum analyzers, wattmeters, and RF diagnostic equipment.

Compensation:

• $65,000 - $74,000 (Based on years of relevant experience)
