Job summary
Baker Hughes in the Field Services group seeks a Field Service Mechanical Engineer – Turbomachinery to lead on-site mechanical work for gas turbines, compressors and related rotating equipment at customer locations.
You will install, commission, inspect, maintain and overhaul equipment, plan sites, supervise craft labor, and ensure safety and quality. This field-based role requires 70% travel including international and offshore assignments, with opportunities for career growth.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical or mechatronics engineering is required.
- Experience with gas turbines, compressors or rotating equipment is essential.
- Strong customer service and stakeholder-management skills are important.
Responsibilities
- Execute installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning and maintenance of rotating equipment and auxiliaries.
- Perform precision mechanical tasks including alignment, leveling, torquing and dimensional checks.
- Diagnose mechanical issues and define corrective actions with technical support.
- Lead customer communication, site planning, daily coordination and supervision of craft labor/subcontractors.
- Prepare field service reports, logs and technical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with QHSE requirements (JSAs, toolbox talks, LOTO, Permit-to-Work).
- Specialize in one or more turbine/compressor domains as needed.

Field Specialist – SVS – (ADGT, CC, HDGT, ST)
At Baker Hughes, our Field Services team helps customers install, commission, maintain and optimize equipment across oilfield, power generation and industrial facilities. In this role, you will serve as the on-site technical lead for mechanical work on gas turbines, compressors and related rotating equipment. You will perform installation, commissioning, inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, and overhaul of rotating equipment at customer sites.
You will have the autonomy to solve complex field challenges, work across multiple turbine and compressor platforms, and make a direct impact on equipment safety, reliability and performance. The anticipated hourly pay range for this position is $22–$95 per hour, depending on geographic location, skills, qualifications and experience. You’ll be eligible for generous overtime pay, standby pay, and a yearly bonus based on your performance and level. Various other perks and incentives are available.
- Executing installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and maintenance of rotating equipment and associated auxiliaries.
- Performing precision mechanical tasks including alignment, leveling, torquing, dimensional checks, and assembly/disassembly.
- Diagnosing mechanical issues and collaborating with technical support teams to define corrective actions.
- Leading customer communication, site planning, daily coordination, and supervision of craft labor/subcontractors.
- Preparing accurate Field Service Reports, daily logs, punch lists, and technical documentation.
- Ensuring full compliance with QHSE requirements, including JSAs, toolbox talks, LOTO, and Permit-to-Work processes.
- Depending on your expertise, you will specialize in one or more of the following domains:
- Centrifugal Compressors
- Heavy-Duty Gas Turbines
- Aeroderivative Gas Turbines
- Steam Turbines
- A technical diploma and at least five years of field experience with gas turbines, compressors or other rotating equipment performing installation, inspections or maintenance.
- Specialization in one or more technologies:
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and follow OEM procedures.
- Proficiency with precision tools (laser alignment, borescope, micrometers, dial indicators).
- Experience executing upgrades, NICs/TILs, or mechanical modifications.
- Strong customer service, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- The ability to work independently, analyze complex issues and provide technical leadership with minimal supervision.
- A strong Health, Safety and Environmental mindset and commitment to quality standards.
- Willingness and ability to travel at least 70%, including internationally and offshore, without geographical restrictions, and a current or previous TWIC card or eligibility to obtain one.
This is a field-based role. Regular responsibilities may be performed away from a designated Baker Hughes location, with extensive travel to customer sites.

A bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering.
Familiarity with optical or laser alignment systems, basic electrical testing, or in-situ winding repairs and rewinds.

The annual pay scale for this position is between $21.86 - $95.59.
Candidates for this role (office-based/ hybrid/ remote) must be located in or near the locations displayed above.
