Job summary

Tyree Oil is seeking a Field Service Mechanic in the Grand Junction area to diagnose, repair, and service vehicles and equipment in the field, shop, or at customer locations. You will remove, install, and evaluate mechanical components, perform failure analysis, and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems.

The role requires 3+ years of mechanical repair experience, strong diagnostic abilities, safety awareness, and excellent customer communication.

Position Summary

The Field Service Mechanic independently diagnoses, repairs, and services vehicles and equipment in the field, in the shop, or at customer locations. This position removes, installs, and repairs components; performs failure analysis; and troubleshoots vehicle, heavy-equipment, and generator-engine systems, including electrical systems, hydraulics, transmissions, and electronic/computer applications. This role requires a strong work ethic, excellent customer service, and an ability to solve problems in a variety of service situations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently diagnose, repair, and service vehicles and equipment in the field, shop, and at customer locations.
  • Remove, install, repair, and evaluate mechanical and related components, including performing failure analysis as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and repair vehicles, heavy-equipment, and generator-engine systems.
  • Diagnose and service electrical systems, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and electronic/computer applications.
  • Use sound problem-solving skills to identify equipment issues and determine appropriate repair solutions.
  • Provide professional, customer-focused service and communicate effectively with customers throughout service work.
  • Safely operate and care for a company-provided service vehicle and assigned tools/equipment.
  • Travel frequently throughout the assigned service territory; overnight stays may be required.
  • Follow company safety practices, procedures, and service standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications and Core Competencies:
  • Minimum Experience:3+ years of demonstrated mechanical repair experience with vehicles, heavy equipment, generator engines, or comparable equipment.
  • Technical Skills:Working knowledge of mechanical systems and the ability to diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, transmission, and electronic/computer-controlled systems.
  • Core Competencies:Strong work ethic, customer-service orientation, independent judgment, problem solving, reliability, and professional communication. Can work independently without supervision.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Field service experience repairing vehicles, heavy equipment, or generator engines.
  • Experience performing component removal, installation, repair, and failure analysis.
  • Strong diagnostic skills across electrical, hydraulic, transmission, and electronic/computer systems.
  • Ability to work independently in varied fields and customer environments.
  • Commitment to ongoing company training and certification requirements.

  • Driving Dependent Position: YES - frequent travel within the service territory is required.
  • Overnight Travel: May be required based on service needs.

The employee regularly works on or near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt. The employee may occasionally work in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is loud. Machinery/Forklift operation may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to, eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats. This position performs hands-on mechanical service in the field, shop, and customer environments. Work may require regular use of hand and power tools, working around vehicles and heavy equipment, and accessing equipment components in a variety of positions and conditions. The employee must be able to safely perform the physical tasks necessary to inspect, remove, install, diagnose, and repair equipment. Work Schedule:
  • Hours Per Week: Regularly work 40+ hours a week,
  • Days Per Week: M-F / 8+ hours per day
  • Overtime: Regular overtime is required.

  • Travel: Frequent travel within the assigned service territory.
  • Overnight Stays: Frequently
