Job summary

Hawthorne Cat in Colorado (Lakeside) is seeking a Field Service Lube Truck Technician to perform off-site lubrication and preventive maintenance on heavy equipment, including diesels, brakes, radiators, and engines. You will drive a lube truck to various locations and work under the Field Service Manager.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent with two years of service/maintenance experience, good communication, teamwork, valid driver's license, and ability to use hand tools.

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two-year’s experience in servicing, preventative maintenance, vehicle and equipment inspection work including mechanical repairs on automotive or diesel equipment vehicles; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills and proper business etiquette; customer service aptitude.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and possess a positive attitude.
  • Must have a valid Class “C” California State Drivers’ License with a clean driving record, Class “B” Drivers’ License preferred.
  • Furnish all hand tools required to repair, test and diagnose hydraulic, air, power train, electrical and electronic systems on Caterpillar equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Drives a lube truck to various locations and performs servicing on diesel powered vehicles and equipment by fueling, lubricating, changing oil, changing air and oil filters, and checking and adding fluids, including windshield washers, transmissions, cooling systems, brakes, and differentials.
  • Performs all requirements found in any Caterpillar Lubrication & Maintenance Guide.
  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on brake adjustments, leak repairs, removal and installation of radiators and thermostats and replacing hoses, fan belts, alternators, regulators, and batteries.
  • Makes any necessary adjustments on engines as well as to the components in the various systems.
  • Replaces heavy equipment components including grader blades and cutting edges.
  • Provides mechanical preventive maintenance information by answering questions and requests.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Field Service Manager, this position exists to drive a lube truck and performs off-site lubrication by servicing, completing preventive maintenance work on heavy equipment; performing minor mechanical field repairs on equipment; maintaining records and preventive maintenance schedules for assigned equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Drives a lube truck to various locations and performs servicing on diesel powered vehicles and equipment by fueling, lubricating, changing oil, changing air and oil filters, and checking and adding fluids, including windshield washers, transmissions, cooling systems, brakes, and differentials.
  2. Performs all requirements found in any Caterpillar Lubrication & Maintenance Guide.
  3. Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on brake adjustments, leak repairs, removal and installation of radiators and thermostats and replacing hoses, fan belts, alternators, regulators, and batteries.
  4. Makes any necessary adjustments on engines as well as to the components in the various systems.
  5. Replaces heavy equipment components including grader blades and cutting edges.
  6. Provides mechanical preventive maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  7. Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  8. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  9. Makes warranty recommendations and reports in representation of a CAT product.
  10. Maintains quality service by following organization standards.
  11. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing publications.
  12. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.
EQUIPMENT/TOOLS REQUIRED:

Provide basic set of mechanics hand tools.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  1. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  1. Walking and moving about on foot often through uneven terrain.
  2. Hands/arms operating equipment, hand and power tools.

  4. Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts and tools. Lifts up to 60 pounds. Frequent exertion.
  5. Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
  6. Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
  7. Standing: Remains in standing position if required for certain repair or maintenance work.
  8. Climbing: In and out of equipment.
  9. Vision: Reads work tickets, parts and service books and operate heavy equipment.
  10. Talking: Communicates via telecommunications and in person.
  11. Hearing: Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication via telecommunications and in person.
  12. Sitting: Sits in equipment and vehicles.
  13. Laying: Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  1. Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
  2. Temperatures/Weather: Works outside and in shop with variations of temperature and weather.
  3. Exposure: Foul orders, fumes and harsh substances.
