Job summary

Hawthorne Cat in Guam is seeking a Lube Technician to drive a lube truck, service diesel equipment, and perform preventative maintenance on heavy machinery and generators. You’ll maintain records and follow Caterpillar guidelines to ensure reliability.

Strong communication and teamwork are essential for success. The position requires a high school diploma, 2+ years in maintenance, and a valid Guam Class B license with the tools to diagnose hydraulic, air, and electrical systems.

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two-year’s experience in servicing, preventative maintenance, vehicle and equipment inspection work including mechanical repairs on automotive or diesel equipment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with proper business etiquette and a high customer service aptitude.
  • Positive attitude and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must have or be able to obtain, within 3 months, a valid Class “B” Guam Drivers’ License and a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to furnish all hand tools required to repair, test, and diagnose hydraulic, air, power train, electrical, and electronic systems on Caterpillar equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Drives a lube truck to various locations and performs servicing on diesel powered vehicles and equipment by fueling, lubricating, changing oil, changing air and oil filters, and checking and adding fluids.
  • Performs all requirements found in Caterpillar Lubrication & Maintenance Guide.
  • Ensures operation of machinery by completing preventative maintenance on brakes, leaks, hoses, belts, batteries.
  • Provides mechanical preventative maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Makes warranty recommendations and reports in representation of a CAT product.
  • Maintains quality service by following organization standards.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Branch Manager, the Lube Technician exists to drive a lube truck and perform off-site lubrication by servicing, completing preventative maintenance work on heavy equipment and generators, performing minor mechanical field repairs on equipment, and maintaining records and preventative maintenance schedules for assigned equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Drives a lube truck to various locations and performs servicing on diesel powered vehicles and equipment by fueling, lubricating, changing oil, changing air and oil filters, and checking and adding fluids, including windshield washers, transmissions, cooling systems, brakes, and differentials.
  2. Performs all requirements found in any Caterpillar Lubrication & Maintenance Guide.
  3. Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements on brake adjustments, leak repairs, and replacing hoses, fan belts, alternators, regulators, and batteries.
  4. Provides mechanical preventative maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  5. Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  6. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  7. Makes warranty recommendations and reports in representation of a CAT product.
  8. Maintains quality service by following organization standards.
  9. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing publications.
  10. Contributes to a team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two-year’s experience in performing servicing, preventative maintenance, vehicle and equipment inspection work including mechanical repairs on automotive or diesel equipment vehicles or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Must have the ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
  3. Must have good verbal and written communication skills with proper business etiquette and a high customer service aptitude.
  4. Must have a positive attitude and the ability to work in a team environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  1. Walking and moving about on foot, often up and down stairs.
  2. Handling: Seizes, helps, or works with hands. Operates equipment and hand and power tools.
  3. Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous parts and tools. Lifts up to 60 pounds. Frequent exertion.
  4. Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
  5. Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
  6. Standing: Remains in standing position if required to perform various functions of the job.
  7. Climbing: In and out of machines.
  8. Raising/Lowering: Goes up and down in man lifts.
  9. Vision: Reads work tickets, parts and service books and operates heavy equipment.
  10. Talking: Communicates by telecommunications and in person.
  11. Hearing: Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication via telecommunications and in person.
  12. Sitting: Sits in equipment and vehicles.
  13. Laying: Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL:
  1. Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
  2. Temp/Weather: Works outside and in shop with variations of temperature and weather.
  3. Exposure: Subject to foul odors, fumes, and harsh substances.
