Job summary

Carrier is seeking a student engineer in the Pittsburgh area to assist with startup and commissioning of customer systems, maintain drawings, and support calibration and software commissioning for building automation projects.

Requirements include pursuing an engineering degree with a 3.0+ GPA, legal US work authorization, and a willingness to travel over 50% of the week. Valid driver’s license and occasional overnight travel are expected.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in any Engineering field.
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable.
  • Willingness to travel more than 50% of a typical work week, mostly local travel and occasional overnight stays.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with startup, commissioning and re‑commissioning of customer systems using pneumatic/electrical/electronic technology.
  • Maintain accurate As‑Built drawings in Visio, Excel, Word and update as required.
  • Assist during calibration of systems with basic electronic test equipment (multimeters, network terminals, laptop).
  • Assist in static and dynamic commissioning of software programming for building automation.
  • Set up operator workstations with all required software and documentation.
  • Perform daily job database backups and assist with turnover to service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with startup, commission and re‑commission of customer systems that utilize pneumatic / electrical / electronic technology
  • Assist with maintaining accurate As‑Built drawing package and making changes in Visio, Excel, Word, as required
  • Assist during calibration of systems requiring basic electronic test equipment, such as multi‑meters, network terminals and/or a laptop computer
  • Assist in static (stand‑alone) and dynamic (total building interactive network) commissioning of software programming
  • Assist in the set‑up of operator workstations with all associated software
  • Responsible for performing job database backups daily or as advised
  • Assist with turnover to service
  • Track and record job progress and keep lead project personnel informed on progress
  • Keep project management appraised of concerns and issues
  • Complete paperwork on time including time sheets, expense reports, posting of work orders, on‑site documentation and project status reports
  • Communicate with lead project personnel upon arrival and before leaving the work site
Basic Qualifications
  • Must be currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in any Engineering field.
  • Must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship
  • Possess and maintain valid and current Driver’s License and be insurable by our company’s insurance carrier
  • Willingness to travel more than 50% of typical work week, mostly local travel and seldom overnight hotel stay
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic understanding of control logic
  • Knowledge in DDC control theory and applications pertaining to the HVAC/Control preferred
  • Capable of climbing ladders or using other lift equipment in excess of 8 feet above grade, and capable of lifting items up to 50lbs
  • Prior experience in HVAC and/or Building Automation preferred
Pay Range

The annual salary for this position is between $43,500.00 - $87,500.00 annually.

Other Compensation

This position may be entitled to short‑term cash incentives, subject to plan requirements.
