We are seeking a Field Service Installation Technician with strong mechanical aptitude to support commercial and military shipbuilding and repair. This hands‑on role involves equipment installation, testing, maintenance, and repair, using mechanical hardware, fasteners, adhesives, sealants, bonding agents, and hand and power tools.
The position requires frequent travel to shipyards and field locations, including work aboard commercial and military ships. The ideal candidate is technically strong, communicates well, works effectively with others, and can quickly solve problems in a high‑stress environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, assemble, test, maintain, and repair commercial and military equipment.
- Perform maintenance and repair involving mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components.
- Use mechanical fasteners, adhesives, sealants, bonding agents, hand tools, and power tools.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and implement effective solutions in field and shipboard environments.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, manuals, and installation instructions.
- Perform inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance.
- Support manufacturing plant maintenance and equipment installation as needed.
- Document installations, repairs, testing, and service activities through technical reports.
- Present technical information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, U.S. Navy personnel, teammates, and other stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, production, customers, and field service personnel.
- Follow all applicable safety requirements and defense‑industry procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements
- 2+ years of related mechanical, technical, field service, maintenance, or repair experience.
- High technical aptitude with hands‑on experience using hardware, mechanical fasteners, hand and power tools, adhesives, sealants, and bonding agents.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a high‑stress environment.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to present technical information and interact professionally with customers, U.S. Navy personnel, managers, supervisors, peers, and teammates.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and take on a leadership role when required.
- Ability to climb ladders and work or crawl in tight spaces aboard commercial and military ships.
- Flexibility to accommodate last‑minute travel and medium‑to‑long‑duration field assignments.
- Ability to obtain a valid passport for occasional overseas travel, up to two times per year.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, manuals, and installation instructions.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet applicable background and security requirements.
- The ability to travel 30% to 60% locally & nationally. International travel 1 or 2 times a year.
- U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Permanent Residency, or Green Card required.
Preferred Skills
- Experience aboard commercial or military ships.
- Experience with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, or marine systems.
- Knowledge of defense‑industry standards and requirements.
- Familiarity with diagnostic and equipment testing tools.
- Previous U.S. Navy or defense‑related project experience.
$30.00–$38.00 per hour, plus bonus, PTO, 401(k), and medical benefits.
