Job summary

Roche Holding AG is seeking a Field Service Installation Representative – Mass Spectrometry to lead and execute installations across the United States, ensuring hardware is calibrated and ready for assay validation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and technical training or equivalent military experience.
• 2 years of experience repairing, servicing, or installing complex electro-mechanical hardware or instrumentation.
• Experience with laboratory fluidics or gas systems are preferred.
• Direct experience with LC-MS/MS or high-throughput diagnostic instrumentation is desired.

Responsibilities

• Lead site inspections, installation, and initial setup of cobas i601 systems nationwide.
• Install mass spec infrastructure including UHV pumps and gas lines.
• Install connectivity and software drivers for cobas i601 platform integration.
• Perform initial calibration and TSBs compliance during installation.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, fluidic, gas, or IT issues to ensure on-time delivery.
• Handover to FES/FAS with thorough customer training and sign-off.

The Position

The Field Service Installation Representative – Mass Spectrometry travel to customer laboratories across the United States to lead and execute the physical installation, uncrating, hardware setup, and initial calibration of Roche’s automated mass spectrometry platform, the cobas i601, and its integrated components.

Because clinical mass spectrometry involves ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems, specialized gas supplies (nitrogen, collision gas), high-pressure LC fluidics, and automated front-end sample preparation, you will play a critical technical role in establishing a flawless hardware foundation for our customer laboratories.

In this role, you will work closely with local Field Engineering Specialists (FES) and Field Applications Specialists (FAS) to hand over fully operational, validated mass spectrometry systems ready for customer assay implementation.

The Opportunity

As a Field Service Installation Representative – Mass Spectrometry, you will:

• Lead & Execute Mass Spec Installations: Perform site pre-inspections, physical installation, assembly, line leveling, and initial setup of cobas i601 mass spectrometry systems and automated liquid-handling front-ends across national customer sites with minimal supervision.
• Mass Spec Hardware & Infrastructure Setup: Install and verify critical mass spec infrastructure, including ultra-high vacuum (UHV) pumps, atmospheric pressure ionization (ESI/APCI) interface modules, nitrogen and carrier gas supply lines, exhaust systems, and high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC/UHPLC) fluidic connections.
• Connectivity & Software Integration: Install instrument connectivity solutions, network interfaces, and software drivers as part of the total cobas i601 platform integration.
• Initial System Calibration & TSB Compliance: Perform initial physical alignments, basic vacuum leak checks, fluidic pressure testing, and implement mandatory technical service bulletins (TSBs) and engineering modifications during the installation window.
• Troubleshoot Installation Issues: Identify, analyze, and resolve mechanical, fluidic, gas-line, electronic, and IT connectivity issues during the installation process to ensure on-time project completion.
• Cross-Functional FES/FAS Handover: Partner closely with local FES and FAS teams to ensure seamless transition from physical installation to assay validation and user training, ensuring high customer satisfaction.

This is a field-based national installation role - Ideal candidate must reside in Texas (San Antonio), California, New Jersey (North), Atlanta (Georgia ), and Salt Lake (Utah).

Travel: This position requires 100% travel based on customer needs and demands.

Who You Are

• You hold a High school diploma and 2 years of technical school or equivalent military training (OR equivalent work experience); AND
• 2 years of progressive experience repairing, servicing, or installing complex electro-mechanical hardware, analytical/diagnostic instrumentation, software, or networking/wireless systems (or equivalent military experience).
• Experience or familiarity with complex laboratory fluidics, pneumatic/gas systems, or high-precision mechanical assemblies.
• Direct experience installing or servicing complex laboratory systems (LC-MS/MS, analytical chemistry equipment, or high-throughput clinical diagnostic instrumentation).

Preferred Requirements

• 2+ years of direct experience installing, servicing, or maintaining mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), chromatography (HPLC/UHPLC), vacuum systems, or Roche clinical diagnostic analyzers.
• Advanced knowledge of electronics, electro-mechanical systems, gas dynamics, ultra-high vacuum systems, and information technology.
• Knowledge of basic chemistry, analytical chromatography, and clinical laboratory physical environments.
• Strong mechanical aptitudes (use of precision measurement tools, vacuum leak detectors, gas flow meters).
• Effective customer service, organization, time-management, and written/verbal communication skills.

Relocation benefits are not available for this position.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Indiana is 55,900.00 - 103,700.00 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
