Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer in Illinois to act as the technical authority on solar hardware and guide internal teams, contractors, and customers. You will train installers, review and update installation manuals, and address complex technical inquiries to ensure safe, compliant operations.

Responsibilities include creating compelling technical documentation, providing timely support, and collaborating with suppliers for optimal performance.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of field service engineering experience in solar or related systems.
  • Strong understanding of solar equipment, system design, and installation best practices.
  • Experience in solar and roofing is a plus.
  • Familiar with solar and electrical code and compliance.
  • Proven ability to create technical documentation and support customers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.

  • Collaborate with third-party suppliers of electrical equipment to ensure compatibility and optimal performance of solar products
  • Collect and analyze customer feedback and product performance data to contribute to continuous product improvement initiatives
  • Stay current on industry trends, standards, and competitive product landscape to inform product development and support strategies
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in field service engineering for solar or related systems such as batteries
  • Strong understanding of solar equipment, system design, and installation best practices
  • Experience in solar and roofing is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of solar and electrical code and compliance
  • Proven experience in technical documentation and customer support
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with contractors and suppliers
  • Equally comfortable giving a presentation in an office or working with a crew on a jobsite
  • Familiar and comfortable with safely working at heights
  • Advanced analytical skills, and creativity in solving problems/trouble shooting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to travel (25-50%)
