Job summary

SMA America in the United States seeks a Field Service Engineer for the Midwest region (Columbia, MO). The position is field-based with significant travel and requires residency in the Columbia area.

You will commission, troubleshoot, and repair SMA utility inverters in the field, support warranty repairs, and perform maintenance per SMA manuals. A technical degree and 3+ years in electrical/electronic or communications are expected.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in electrical, electronic, and/or network communications.
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent experience working in the renewables industry.
• Ability to work nonstandard business hours and a nonstandard schedule as needed to support service customer contracts.
• Ability to meet the travel requirements of the role.
• Residence in the Columbia, Missouri area.

Responsibilities

• Assist with commissioning, troubleshooting, repairs, and analyses of SMA America's utility inverters in the field, by email, telephone, and site visits.
• Work regularly with high voltage DC electricity, three phase power, and the relevant software and firmware of the inverters.
• Assist with, perform, and maintain maintenance activities in accordance with the SMA product maintenance manual on assigned sites, consistent with SMA customer contractual obligations.
• Develops a detailed knowledge of SMA's utility inverter products, associated SMA accessories, and third party accessories sold by SMA for use with the inverters.
• Maintains an accurate inventory count of spare parts provided by SMA.
• Maintains a high level of customer satisfaction while striving to lower the costs of field service.
• Other duties as may be required or assigned.
