Job summary

SMA America, the U.S. subsidiary of SMA Solar Technology AG, seeks a Field Service Engineer for the Midwest region.

Based in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul area, you will commission, troubleshoot, and repair SMA utility inverters in the field and perform warranty work across sites. This role requires significant regional travel, nonstandard hours to support service contracts, and a proactive approach to data analysis and maintenance.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of electrical/electronic and/or network communications experience.
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent renewables experience.
• Willingness to work nonstandard hours and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Commission, troubleshoot, repair, and analyze SMA utility inverters in the field via site visits and remote communication.
• Work with high voltage DC, three-phase power, and inverter software/firmware.
• Perform maintenance activities per SMA manuals on assigned sites under contract obligations.
• Develop detailed knowledge of SMA inverter products and accessories.
• Maintain accurate spare parts inventory provided by SMA.
• Strive for high customer satisfaction while reducing field service costs.
• Other duties as assigned.
