  • Minimum 3–4 years hands-on experience servicing medical, pathology, or laboratory instruments.
  • Strong troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, electronic, and software systems.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple service assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, calibrate, and validate laboratory instruments at customer sites.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and service contracts.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, electronic, optical, fluidic, and software issues.
  • Respond promptly to customer requests and minimize downtime.
  • Provide operator training and technical guidance to customers.

Job Description

Position Summary

Exreprotein LLC is a rapidly growing biotechnology company specializing in recombinant proteins, molecular biology reagents, cell and gene therapy raw materials, pathology solutions, and laboratory instrumentation. We are expanding our pathology instrument business and are seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to join our Minneapolis headquarters.

This position is ideal for a motivated engineer who enjoys solving technical problems, working directly with customers, and supporting advanced laboratory instruments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Field Service

  • Install, commission, calibrate, and validate laboratory instruments at customer sites.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), warranty service, and service contract support.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, electronic, optical, fluidic, and software-related issues.
  • Respond promptly to customer service requests and minimize instrument downtime.
  • Complete detailed service reports and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Provide operator training and technical guidance to customers.
  • Support remote troubleshooting via phone, email, and online meetings when appropriate.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and refurbish demonstration, rental, and returned instruments.
  • Replace defective or worn components and perform hardware upgrades.
  • Perform calibration, quality control, and final performance verification before shipment.
  • Prepare instruments for customer demonstrations, rentals, exhibitions, and installations.
  • Maintain service documentation and equipment history records.

Technical & Sales Support

  • Support regional sales representatives during demonstrations, evaluations, and customer visits.
  • Provide technical and service training to distributors and partners.
  • Assist with installation planning and customer acceptance testing.
  • Communicate customer feedback and technical issues to engineering and management teams.

Inventory & Spare Parts

  • Manage local spare parts inventory.
  • Coordinate parts ordering, shipment, and replenishment.
  • Ensure adequate inventory levels to support rapid customer response.

Instruments Supported

Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:

  • H&E Stainers
  • Tissue Processors
  • Microtomes
  • Cryostats
  • Slide Printers
  • Cover Slippers
  • Automated IHC Stainers
  • Flow Cytometers
  • Other pathology laboratory and life science instruments
Qualifications

Required

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Medical Equipment Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 3–4 years of hands‑on experience servicing medical, pathology, or laboratory instruments.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills involving mechanical, electrical, electronic, and software systems.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple service assignments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic computer networking.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel 30–60% within the United States.
  • Ability to safely lift and transport equipment, tools, and parts weighing up to 25 kg (55 lbs).

Preferred

  • Experience supporting pathology laboratories, hospitals, clinical laboratories, or life science research facilities.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and service contracts.
  • Knowledge of laboratory workflows and instrument validation.
  • Experience training customers or distributors.
  • Familiarity with ISO 13485, FDA Quality System Regulation, CAP, or CLIA environments.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • An employee, to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, requires extended sitting or standing at workstation or at desk.
  • The employee should be able to lift 50 pounds, if necessary.
