Job description

Field Service Engineer - Must be local to Yuma, AZ

This position is in support of a fielded Border Patrol surveillance system whose purpose is to provide situational awareness in support of the Border Patrol's mission. The system is deployed along the Southern Border of the United States and requires someone who enjoys working outdoors, can efficiently manage their time, works with a team, and enjoys learning and adapting to new technology.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Must have a valid driver’s license
  2. Security Clearance Level: Must be able to obtain a Public Trust BI required
  3. Location: Remote work, must be local to Yuma, AZ
  4. Must be able to lift at least 35 pounds
  5. US Citizenship Required

HOW A FIELD ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

Technical Support and Troubleshooting:

  1. Provide on-site troubleshooting, diagnosis, and resolution of technical issues for our equipment and systems.
  2. Conduct root-cause analysis on hardware, software, and network issues to restore functionality.
  3. A Field Engineer is responsible for promoting and providing GDIT products or services in government customer locations.
  4. Maximize customer satisfaction to the greatest degree possible, including cases where they are brought in to resolve an issue.

Installation and Maintenance:

  1. Provide technical advice and guidance on installation, adaptation, configuration, and/or enhancement of GDIT technical products, programs, and systems.
  2. Install, configure, and test new equipment and systems according to client specifications and GDIT guidelines, processes, and procedures.
  3. Perform routine maintenance and preventative care to optimize equipment performance and reduce downtime.

Customer Training and Support:

  1. A Field Engineer acts as a liaison between the GDIT program and customers to increase brand loyalty. They must possess strong communication abilities to increase customer satisfaction.
  2. Act as a resource to train end-users on proper system use, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
  3. Offer remote support to government clients as needed, guiding them through troubleshooting steps when on-site visits are not feasible.
  4. Maintain a productive working relationship with direct and indirect customers while protecting business interests.
  5. Assist with customer needs and strive to resolve any issues in a prompt manner.

Documentation and Reporting:

  1. A Field Engineer must work well under deadlines and have problem-solving skills. They create performance reports, as well as manage complex projects across different sectors or states.
  2. Maintain detailed documentation of service visits, including issues identified, solutions provided, and future recommendations.
  3. Report recurring issues and potential improvements to the GDIT program engineering and product teams for continuous improvement.

Collaboration and Communication:

  1. Work closely with sales, product, and engineering teams to ensure high levels of service and customer satisfaction.
  2. Act as a liaison between the customer and the company to ensure smooth communication and clear expectations.
  3. Provide support for GDIT business plans and initiatives, paying attention to detail and organization to present a positive company image on the road.

Must follow strict company and industry privacy regulations. They must create effective technical reports and present to customers regularly, as well as cultivate new commercial relationships and develop strong partnerships with vendors. They report to the service manager in their department.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  1. Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking issues.
  2. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  3. Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  4. Strong customer service orientation with a problem-solving mindset.
  5. Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.
  6. Will need to drive to customer locations (sometimes remote) located in the assigned area of responsibility daily to perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
  7. GDIT will provide a company vehicle.
  8. Provide technical field support for company products by servicing sites and/or delivering or installing equipment.
  9. Resolve maintenance and operational issues in the field.
  10. Perform troubleshooting procedures.
  11. Education: Bachelor of Science preferred; High School diploma mandatory.
  12. Required Experience: 2+ years of related experience. Previous working experience in information technology, network operation, or security operation centers may be helpful.
  13. Required Technical Skills: Experience with communication systems including Microwave, Radar, and Video surveillance systems is a plus.

Salary and Benefit Information:
The likely salary range for this position is $68,000 - $92,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location, and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
