Job description

Field Service Engineer – Manassas, VA

Brooks Automation, a technology leader in automation solutions, seeks a Field Service Engineer for its Manassas, VA area. The role focuses on the installation, modification, repair, and preventive maintenance of robotics, vacuum systems, and atmospheric units used in semiconductor and life science labs.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform complex customer support activities including installation, modification, repair, testing, and upgrade of equipment and systems, ensuring compliance with Brooks Automation policies and procedures.
  • Isolate and resolve complex equipment malfunctions, implementing corrective action.
  • Work independently under minimal supervision to meet company and customer quality standards.
  • Act as a local/shift/site lead to coordinate work direction for other Service Engineers.
  • Interface with customers to ensure satisfaction with equipment and service levels and participate in operational/status meetings.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment, following all workplace protocols and policies.
  • Attain equipment service and operation certification as defined, submit required service and status reports.
  • React productively to changing priorities such as tool or line downtime and support organizational administrative duties.
  • Train customer and Brooks personnel in equipment operation and maintenance procedures.
  • Mentor and train less experienced Service Engineers.
  • Drive continuous improvement programs and projects for customers and Brooks to resolve issues.
  • Initiate, evaluate, and document new processes or improvements to existing processes.
  • Create reports, project plans, training plans, certification matrices and other documentation as required.
  • Present at the customer site or Brooks office to management and customers.
  • Work in a clean room environment when required by customer, wearing full clean room suit.
  • Work schedule must align with customer needs, including compressed work weeks, night shifts, weekends, and on‑call assignments.
What You’ll Bring
  • Associate’s degree in a technical discipline, technical certificate or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience providing electro‑mechanical or electronics technical support/repair service.
  • Experience with lasers and positioning devices for robotics.
  • Experience troubleshooting microelectronics schematics and digital circuits.
  • Proficiency with PCs, Windows, and DOS‑based operating systems.
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to work in awkward positions and be available for on‑call assignments.
Compensation

Base salary range: $36.79 to $49.78 per hour. Pay may vary based on geography, skills, education, experience and other qualifications. Eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.

Work Location & Flexibility
