Location/Division Specific Information

Position based REMOTELY in Cambridge, MA area and will support the New England area. Supporting the Instruments and Enterprise Services (IES) Division at Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Discover Impactful Work:

Field Service Engineers are considered “remote” colleagues since they commute daily to customer sites to provide service. As such, Field Service Engineers are provided with a Fleet vehicle to allow for daily travel to multiple customer locations in their defined service area. Some overnight travel will be encouraged to service customers and participate in training programs.

You will make an impact by handling various aspects of field service support and customer relationships within our Laboratory Equipment (LE). You will provide complete services on laboratory equipment, including repairs, preventative maintenance, installation, and instrument qualifications, as well as being an advocate for Thermo Fisher Scientific.

A Day in the Life:
  • Repair, install, and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment products including incubators, centrifuges, cold storage (refrigerators and freezers), and other equipment as needed.

  • Schedules and completes detailed preventative maintenance and corrective service to ensure peak uptime of customer equipment

  • Provide onsite service training to Biomedical Engineering. Technicians (BMET) or advanced operators.

  • Submit expenses and manage trunk stock inventory in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Document daily service actions through the company work order database.

  • Maintains courteous and knowledgeable communication with customers to ensure alignment of all aspects of the service events (status, cost, scheduling, etc.).

Keys to Success:
Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience.

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in Electronics or Engineering field preferred.

  • EPA Certification preferred.

Experience
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in field service, Depot repair, manufacturing facilities or equivalent, servicing medical devices or laboratory equipment, etc.

  • Strong electronic/electrical and mechanical background preferred, refrigeration experience a plus.

  • Experience working with basic test equipment such as DMM, tachometer, temperature devices, etc. Hands-on Refrigeration experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Work Environment
  • Ability to operate computers, smartphones, and related software efficiently.

  • Effective interpersonal skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks with minimal direction.

  • Ability to work independently diagnosing and solving using schematics, diagrams, service manuals, and other technical resources.

  • Committed – approaches opportunities and challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm, and consistently meets deadlines.

  • Positive Customer Focus – builds positive relationships and delivers customer-centric service.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs with assistance, and carry 25-30 Lbs. continuously throughout the day.

  • Ability to drive frequently within the territory and travel overnight if required.

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving.
