What You Will Be Doing

Provide a level of postsales support and service to customer sites and remote sites at a high-tech level that cannot be rendered by the basic level of field hardware and systems software service. Employee is usually introduced to the customer site when the nature of equipment service required is beyond the skill level possessed by the basic field/customer service engineer. The candidate will serve as part of the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Field Sustainment (AFS) technical interface to the on‑site customer, resolving issues that arise from any activity related to the C‑130 aircraft, and will be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Aircraft, Mechanical, and Propulsion Systems disciplines. Additionally, the role requires deep technical expertise and troubleshooting skills to diagnose, modify, inspect, and optimize installed C‑130J systems while providing on‑site engineering support and detailed analysis for customers. As the primary point of contact for customer personnel at all levels, the incumbent must deliver clear oral and written technical briefings, reports, and recommendations.

Responsibilities include hands‑on guidance for equipment installation, adjustment, calibration, bench‑checking, routine and intermediate‑level repairs, and overall operational techniques, as well as advising on the selection, use, and maintenance of specialty tools, handling equipment, and test equipment specific to the C‑130J platform.

The position also involves assisting customers in interpreting and applying Technical Orders, Engineering Change Proposals, and related publications to ensure compliance with the latest revisions. Continuous oversight of shop maintenance activities and safety practices is essential, with the duty to recommend corrective actions that uphold reliability and minimize future issues. The engineer will lead investigations of atypical or complex C‑130J maintenance problems, analyze root causes, and propose process or design improvements. Additionally, the role serves as the liaison between the customer and the Original Equipment Manufacturer, facilitating rapid dissemination of critical maintenance information to operational and maintenance teams to ensure timely awareness of issues and solutions.
