Job summary

JLS is seeking a Field Service Engineer to install, service, and repair robotic packaging equipment at customer sites. Domestic and international travel is required, with weekend availability as needed.

This role collaborates with engineering during FATs and installation prep, and supports customers with operation and maintenance guidance. The ideal candidate has a technical education and 3–5 years’ experience in automated packaging or related machinery, with strong PLC and servo drive skills,

Qualifications

• High School diploma or technical associate degree preferred.
• 3–5 years of experience with automated packaging or related machinery.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
• Knowledge of PLC programming and servo motor drives.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and travel 80%+ with passport.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Perform repair work in-house and at the customer’s site.
• Provide service and technical interface between customer and JLS.
• Assist engineering with FATs and installation prep work.
• Conduct on-site installation, commissioning, service, training, and maintenance.
• Advise customers on operation, maintenance, and modifications.
• Troubleshoot complex equipment problems and provide timely resolutions.
• Generate accurate service reports and quotes; travel as required.

Position Summary

The Field Service Engineer (FSE) will perform services on robotic packaging equipment, performing complex customer support activities involving onsite installation, service, repair, hardware/software integration, process and development support, test support, troubleshooting, and training at the customer site in a timely and cost-effective manner. Domestic and international travel is required. Weekend and holiday availability is required. This role works closely with engineering on project testing and functionality.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform repair work in-house and at the customer’s site.
• Provide service and technical interface between customer and JLS.
• Assist engineering with FATs, and installation prep work.
• Conduct on-site installation, commissioning, service, training, and maintenance.
• Advise customers on operation, maintenance, and modifications.
• Answer complex technical questions on equipment, and work with customers to troubleshoot problems.
• Display a high level of integrity, and work with little supervision.
• Communicate with management and the Customer Service Team, as well as the end user to help determine the appropriate action plan to resolve issues promptly.
• Monitor costs and expenses as it relates to projects, service, and parts.
• Respond to phone support requests as assigned.
• Sell additional value-added services, spare parts, upgrades, etc. when visiting customer sites or as the opportunities arise.
• Turn in accurate detailed reports in a timely manner.
• Respond promptly to all customer service issues.
• Generate quotes for service and parts.
• Assist engineering with any ongoing projects.
• Take the necessary steps to stay current with ongoing technology.
• Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

• High School diploma, Associate's degree technology or electronics degree preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience with automated, packaging, or other related machinery.
• Ability to work all levels of electrical voltage; single and three-phase motors.
• Strong ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical problems.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
• Knowledge of PLC programming, and ability to navigate through PLC and servo motor drive control software.
• Ability to comprehend and demonstrate mechanical assembly and troubleshooting techniques.
• Ability to perform manual assembly of basic machine components and or subassemblies.
• A working knowledge of VFD's.
• Good Electro/Mechanical knowledge.
• Ability to build rapport and interact effectively with personnel at all levels within the company and with vendors and business partners outside the company.
• Always demonstrates highly ethical behavior and good judgment.
• Demonstrated ability to professionally respond to stressful situations in a patient, friendly, and timely manner.
• Ability to effectively communicate in writing using mechanical and electrical drawings, diagrams, and machine schematics to describe a problem or suggested improvement.
• Must have a valid passport or be eligible to obtain one.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Work Environment

• Office: Regular use of desk, computer, keyboard, mouse, phone, and printers.
• Manufacturing floors: May be subject to cold, wet, or hot manufacturing environments for periods of 8 hours or more.
• Physical: Lift, push, pull up to 50lbs; fine manual dexterity; ability to sit for short periods of time; frequent walking or standing.
• Travel: 80%+, including potential weekends and in some cases international travel.
