SAI Advanced Power Solutions, INC. is seeking a Field Service Engineer to troubleshoot and commission switchgear both at the Franklin Park facility and at customer sites. You will read schematics, adjust PLC settings, and oversee commissioning activities with customers.

Travel up to 50% and irregular hours are expected. A B.S. in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years in switchgear are required, along with strong teamwork and communication skills.

• B.S. degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in switchgear and related testing.
• Proficient with Visio and AutoCAD for schematic interpretation.
• Excellent English communication and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% for field work.

Position Summary: Responsible for performing varied complex trouble shooting procedures for units, systems, parts, or processes, both at SAI factory and in field as needed for Start-Up and Commissioning Services. Responsible for field warranty work and repair. Ensures that product conforms to design specifications. Spends a limited amount of time giving technical assistance, work direction and/or training to other technicians.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Read and understand electrical schematics.
• Recognize and make changes on the electrical drawings in order to meet the SOP requirements
• Download, upload and correction PLC programs, meter and controller file settings
• Manage Commissioning process and represent SAI to the Customer and Commissioning Agent
• Install, commission, maintains, troubleshoots, and performs field measures of electrical switchgear in the field as needed.
• Train Customer on SAI switchgear systems.
• Troubleshoot switchgear issues per electrical diagrams.
• Perform complex tests to ensure that physical characteristics, mechanical operations, and electrical functions conform to design and Nema and UL standards.
• Assess defects and malfunctions and makes recommendations for improvement.
• Collaborate with Quality and Engineering to improve test methods and to resolve problems of manufacturing assembly and/or process nature.
• Create and sign off on all required test inspection documents for record and approval for shipment.
• Travel up to 50% and long work hours with variable schedules, including weekends and holidays as needed to maintain operational responsibilities and meet customer needs.
• Regular in-person attendance is an essential function of this job

Education and/or Experience

• B.S. Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or technical education at the college level or equivalent experience
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in switchgear; mechanical or electrical system testing & related work

Knowledge and Skills:

• Safety Training, prior field experience a plus
• Proficient in the use of Visio, AutoCAD, etc.
• Proficient in the following applications: MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Exceptional decision-making, problem resolution and creative thinking skills.
• Troubleshooting capabilities and capable of making critical decisions.
• Must be able to read, write and converse fluently in English with the level of competency that will permit the applicant to function in the position (i.e., collaborate with managers, colleagues and vendors through in-person or virtual meetings, troubleshooting, outsourcing projects and email communication)
