Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) in West Lafayette, IN, seeks a Field Service Electronics Technician to test, repair, and troubleshoot complex SEL products in an electronics lab environment. This role requires up to 75% travel and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure product reliability for power grids worldwide.

The position emphasizes problem-solving skills, hands-on circuit work, and ongoing learning about SEL processes and products in a manufacturing/field support

Typical day might include the following:

• Test, repair, convert, and troubleshoot problems of high complexity to the component level on SEL products.
• Develop and maintain knowledge in SEL processes and products to ensure product quality and integrity.
• Provide basic troubleshooting training to junior department personnel.
• Partner with other divisions to satisfy the needs of our customers.

Qualifications that may be a good fit:

• You have a two‑year electronic engineering technology degree or equivalent.
• You have a strong understanding of analog, digital, and microprocessor‑based electronics.
• You are willing to travel up to 75% of the time.
• You enjoy working in an electronics lab work environment.
• You enjoy solving complex problems alongside your team.

Preferred qualifications:

• Two years experience in electronic design, manufacturing, or testing.
• Working knowledge of structured programming.
• Process improvement experience.

Physical requirements:

• Lift, push, pull and maneuver up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 35 pounds occasionally.
• Sit and stand for at least 8 hours.
• Vision correctable to 20/30 or better.
• Ability to differentiate color.
• Use of computer keyboard devices.
• Reach, bend, and twist.

Pay range data:

Field Service Electronics Technician I $32.88 – $48.60 per hour. Field Service Electronics Technician II $35.83 – $52.94 per hour. Electronics Technician III $40.50 – $59.85 per hour. We set starting pay based on job‑related factors such as your experience, training, knowledge, and skills. We welcome applicants with a range of experience. Depending on your background, we may consider you for a different level, with compensation aligned accordingly.
