Job summary

Trinity Employment Specialists is seeking a Field Service Technician to diagnose and repair customer equipment in the field, starting up machines and supporting production lines.

You will manage service calls with minimal supervision, test repaired equipment, train customer operators, and maintain professional relationships while upholding safety and regulatory standards.

This role requires a valid CDL, ability to travel, and the capacity to work nights/weekends for on-call coverage.

Field Service Technician

Department: Field Service

Pay: $25-40/hour

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7AM-3:30PM

Position Summary: We are seeking a Field Service Technician who can independently diagnose and resolve customer equipment issues while providing exceptional customer service. This position requires someone who can manage service calls with minimal supervision, troubleshoot complex mechanical systems, and maintain a professional relationship with customers while representing the company in the field.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Install and start up new and pre-owned machines, equipment, and complete production lines.
  • Install, set up, and test packaging format tooling.
  • Diagnose and repair equipment at customer locations, including emergency service calls.
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
  • Perform quality control testing on repaired equipment as needed.
  • Train customer operators and maintenance technicians on proper machine operation and maintenance.
  • Conduct product and packaging trials at customer sites.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to customers.
  • Develop and implement technical instruction programs for customers.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot equipment to determine the cause and extent of mechanical issues.
  • Repair equipment by adjusting, aligning, repairing, or replacing defective components.
  • Dismantle machines for refurbishment or relocation.
  • Keep the Service Manager informed of job progress, issues, and project status through written reports and regular communication.
  • Complete field service work independently while maintaining professionalism and excellent customer service.
  • Assist with in-shop service work when not assigned to field service calls.
  • Maintain DOT-compliant driver logbooks.
  • Submit quarterly Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) reports and notify Human Resources of any citations or violations within 48 hours.
  • Maintain accurate expense documentation and submit receipts for all company credit card purchases.
  • Secure cost-effective lodging when overnight travel is required.
  • Use the company-issued cell phone responsibly for business purposes.
  • Follow all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Understand field service invoicing procedures, including labor rates, taxes, markups, mileage, and service documentation.
  • Collect customer payments when required.
  • Support departmental sales goals by identifying service opportunities.
  • Abstain from alcohol consumption while assigned to on-call duty.
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and submit reports weekly.
  • Submit detailed daily timesheets including job information, labor performed, parts used, locations, and mileage.
  • Maintain a current and valid CDL.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and be available for nights, weekends, and emergency service calls.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 65 lbs. from floor to shoulder height.
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to operate a forklift and overhead crane.
  • Work from ladders, scissor lifts, and in confined spaces while performing installations and repairs.
  • Work in varying environmental conditions including heat, cold, grease, dirt, and noise.
  • Drive a service vehicle for extended distances, including trips of 80 continuous miles or more.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, balance, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements using tools.
  • Possess manual dexterity necessary to safely use hand and power tools.
  • Normal vision, with or without corrective lenses.
  • Ability to work extended shifts when business needs require.
  • Successfully pass and maintain a DOT physical and drug screening.
