Job summary

nVenia is seeking a Field Service Controls Engineer to install, commission, troubleshoot, repair, and optimize industrial automation systems on customer lines. This role requires extensive travel to sites across North America and internationally, serving as the primary electrical controls expert with PLC programming, HMI, servo motion, and machine integration responsibilities.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in Allen-Bradley PLCs, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, and related automation

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in electrical engineering tech, mechatronics or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial automation troubleshooting experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of Allen-Bradley PLC programming experience.
  • Experience with packaging, robotics or manufacturing equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, VFD, servo, and network issues at customer sites.
  • Modify and optimize PLC programs (Allen-Bradley, Horner, Mitsubishi, GE Fanuc).
  • Support commissioning and startup of new equipment installations.
  • Read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Travel to customer sites across North America and internationally.
  • Train customer maintenance and operations personnel on controls.
  • Complete detailed service reports with findings and recommendations.
  • Identify upgrades, retrofits and preventive maintenance opportunities.

Job description

Position SummaryThe Field Service Controls Engineer is responsible for the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of industrial automation and control systems for nVenia equipment and customer production lines. This position requires extensive travel to customer sites and serves as the primary technical resource for electrical controls, PLC programming, HMI systems, servo motion control, and machine integration.Essential Duties and Responsibilities• Troubleshoot and diagnose PLC, HMI, VFD, servo, and industrial network issues.• Modify, maintain, and optimize Allen-Bradley and other PLC programs (Horner, Mitsubishi, GE Fanuc, etc.)• Support commissioning and startup of new equipment installations.• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.• Diagnose electrical failures involving sensors, motors, relays, safety circuits, and control components.• Travel to customer sites throughout North America and International for service calls, installations, and commissioning projects.• Train customer maintenance and operations personnel on equipment functionality and controls systems.• Complete detailed service reports documenting work performed, findings, and recommendations.• Identify opportunities for upgrades, retrofits, preventive maintenance programs, and additional service offerings.Required Qualifications• Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Automation Technology, or related field preferred.• Minimum 5 years of industrial automation troubleshooting experience.• Minimum 3 years of Allen-Bradley PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.• Experience supporting packaging, material handling, robotics, or manufacturing equipment preferred.• Strong understanding of Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, Ethernet/IP, VFDs, servo systems, and safety circuits.• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.Preferred Qualifications• Experience with packaging equipment, bagging systems, conveyors, robotics, or automated production equipment.• Experience with Yaskawa, Fanuc, ABB, or other industrial robots.• Knowledge of UL508A and NFPA 70E standards.• Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.Physical Requirements• Ability to travel 80%+ throughout North America.• Ability to work in manufacturing and industrial environments.• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.• Ability to stand, bend, climb ladders, and work around operating machinery.Success Measures• First Time Fix Rate• Customer Satisfaction Scores• Service Report Quality• Equipment Uptime Improvement• Successful Project Commissioning• Safety Performance
