Job summary

RedViking in Plymouth, Michigan is seeking a Field Service Controls Engineer to support installation, commissioning, modification, and ongoing service of automation and test systems at customer facilities.

You will serve as a technical expert, collaborating with customers and the RedViking team to ensure startup, operation, and continuous improvement, including PLC/HMI programming, testing, and documentation.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering or related field.
• 1+ years of experience in PLC and HMI programming.
• Experience with Rockwell Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View, or Siemens TIA Portal.
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, ProfiNET).
• Experience with industrial automation and machine controls.

Responsibilities

• Represent RedViking professionally at customer locations and serve as the primary technical point of contact during installations and service activities.
• Participate in internal and customer meetings to identify project requirements, specifications, issues, schedules, and timelines.
• Assist in coordinating equipment installation activities and support all phases of commissioning and startup.
• Test, troubleshoot, and validate equipment performance after installation.
• Support customers during initial production operation and resolve equipment-related issues as they arise.
• Modify and optimize PLC programs collaboratively with the RedViking team to improve equipment performance and implement customer-requested changes.
• Evaluate Mechanical and Hydraulic systems and provide findings to engineering teams to support corrective actions and design improvements.
• Lead or work as part of a team consisting of RedViking employees and/or contracted resources.
• Maintain accurate service documentation, issue tracking, and communication with customers and internal stakeholders.
• Perform preventive maintenance and reliability improvements.
• Create service reports and document corrective actions.
• Develop Service proposals when necessary.

Job Summary

RedViking is seeking a highly motivated Field Service Controls Engineer to join our team in Plymouth, Michigan. This permanent position requires travel to customer facilities to support the installation, commissioning, modification, and ongoing service of RedViking automation and test systems.

As a Field Service Controls Engineer, you will serve as a technical expert and trusted representative of RedViking, working directly with customers and the RedViking team to ensure the successful installation, startup, and long-term performance of our equipment. You will play an integral role throughout the project lifecycle, including equipment commissioning, controls troubleshooting, system optimization, customer training, and continuous improvement initiatives. Success in this role requires strong technical knowledge, a customer-focused mindset, and the ability to effectively diagnose and resolve issues in fast-paced production environments.

• Experience with industrial automation and machine controls.

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of robotics or motion control programming.
• Familiarity with safety PLCs and advanced diagnostics.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
• Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally in front of the customer.
• Ability to travel frequently to customer locations.
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of MS Office including experience with Excel for date analysis.
