Job summary

Doss Enterprises is seeking a Field Safety Technician to promote and maintain a safe work environment across multiple job sites in West Virginia and surrounding areas. You will conduct inspections, identify hazards, train staff, investigate incidents, and support compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies.

The role requires strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to travel between sites.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years in construction, mining, industrial safety, or related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and general safety principles.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine safety inspections and audits at job sites, facilities, equipment, and practices.
  • Identify unsafe conditions/behaviors and coordinate corrective actions with supervisors.
  • Monitor compliance with safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct field observations and document safety findings.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, near-misses, and property damage events.
  • Assist in developing corrective and preventative action plans.
  • Conduct new hire safety orientations and ongoing training.
  • Maintain training records and safety documentation.
  • Assist with regulatory requirements such as DOT, MSHA, OSHA.
  • Travel regularly between job sites.

Field Safety Technician

Location: Various Field Locations (West Virginia and surrounding areas)

Department: Safety

Reports To: Safety Manager / Director of Safety

Employment Type: Full-Time

The Field Safety Technician is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe work environment across all company job sites. This position works directly with field employees, supervisors, and management to ensure compliance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices. The Field Safety Technician conducts inspections, identifies hazards, assists with employee training, investigates incidents, and actively supports the company's commitment to workplace safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and audits of job sites, facilities, equipment, and work practices.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and work with supervisors to implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor employee compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform field observations and document safety findings.
  • Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, near-misses, and property damage events.
  • Assist in developing and implementing corrective and preventative action plans.
  • Conduct new hire safety orientations and ongoing safety training.
  • Maintain training records and safety documentation.
  • Assist with DOT, MSHA, OSHA, and other regulatory compliance requirements as applicable.
  • Perform job hazard analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments.
  • Administer drug and alcohol testing in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety committee activities.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) on all job sites.
  • Assist in coordinating emergency response activities and drills.
  • Track and report safety metrics, inspections, corrective actions, and incident trends.
  • Maintain professional relationships with regulatory agencies, site personnel, and contractors.
  • Travel regularly between job sites and facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment

This position regularly works in construction sites, mining operations, industrial facilities, and outdoor environments. Exposure to dust, noise, heavy equipment, changing weather conditions, and other field hazards should be expected.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • MSHA Part 46 or Part 48 experience.
  • DOT compliance experience.
  • Occupational safety coursework or certifications.
  • Experience conducting safety training and incident investigations.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb ladders, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to stand, sit, bend, climb, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots, and high-visibility clothing.
