Job summary

Alaska Power & Telephone Company is seeking a Safety Manager to lead day-to-day implementation of safety programs across locations. You will conduct inspections, investigate incidents, support training, and track corrective actions with strong field presence.

The role reports to the Director of Safety & Training and requires extensive Alaska travel, excellent communication, and the ability to influence safe work practices while maintaining review and governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in safety or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• 5+ years of safety or high-hazard operation experience in relevant industries.
• Experience in field inspections, incident investigations, training, hazard assessment, and follow-up across multiple locations.
• Knowledge of occupational safety requirements and common high-hazard controls.
• Willingness to travel extensively within Alaska to remote communities; valid driver's license.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and safety/training/reporting systems.

Responsibilities

• Implement safety policies and programs uniformly across all locations.
• Develop and maintain risk-based field visit schedules, including remote sites.
• Provide safety coaching to employees and managers during inspections.
• Lead inspections of facilities, yards, vehicles, and worksites.
• Maintain corrective-action log and escalate high-risk items.
• Assist with training matrices and field needs.
• Support incident response and routine investigations.
• Coordinate contractor safety reviews and site observations.
• Compile data and report site coverage, findings, and training.
• Direct or pause work for imminent safety risks per policy.
