Position Description:

Our team of Safety Managers work with foremen, superintendents and project managers to ensure compliance with safety and environmental procedures. Managers maintain a visible presence on job sites and communicate with employees throughout the day by addressing safety inquiries, checking employee PPE, and completing incident investigations. They assist in the achievement of profitability and productivity goals. Safety Managers report to the Safety Director.

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. Project Safety Managers typically work 50-55 hours per week. This position requires travel across Iowa and Eastern Nebraska with occasional overnights (less than 20%).

  • Maintain a visible presence in the field by visiting job sites and attending daily Pre-task Plan (PTP) discussions. Present relevant safety topics, updates, and best practices to promote awareness and reinforce safe work habits.
  • Lead incident and “Good Catch” investigations and prepare detailed reports identifying root causes, contributing factors, and corrective actions.
  • Advise Safety Director on safety compliance concerns, opportunities for improvement, and recommends preventative actions.
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training for employees on worksite safety best practices and procedures.
  • Assist in the development, evaluation and upgrading of safety programs.
  • Oversee inspection of job sites, equipment, and vehicles to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Maintain safety files and records.
  • Perform safety surveys and inspections. Ensure employees are properly trained, fitted, and equipped with required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Accompany personnel to job sites to perform drug tests.
  • Perform other administrative duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety, or related field preferred.
  • CHST required within 12 months of hire if not already obtained.
  • Strong computer and communication skills with proven ability to write detailed reports, develop procedures, and document investigations.
  • Experience delivering safety training and presentations to small groups and able to effectively answer questions from employees, managers, and clients (including during Pre-Task Planning sessions).
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must be available to travel overnight as needed (typically less than 20%).
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays (on-call as needed depending on project demands).
