Job summary

Berkel & Company Contractors, Inc. is looking for a Field Safety Specialist to support the Maryland Region, working with the Superintendent and Project Manager to ensure compliance with Berkel corporate safety policy and to implement safety planning goals on multiple project sites.

The candidate will coordinate pre-construction safety planning, conduct site evaluations, lead Toolbox Talks, and perform incident investigations, aligning with OSHA, NFPA, and local safety standards while traveling

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of construction health and safety experience with knowledge of federal and state regulations.
• OSHA Outreach Trainer for the Construction Industry is required.
• CHST preferred.
• Knowledge of drilling operations and/or sheeting and shoring work preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership and ability to coach a large employee base.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Willingness to travel to multiple states for project sites.

Responsibilities

• Create, communicate, enforce, and identify opportunities for improvements in Site Specific Safety Program.
• Maintain all administrative tasks related to project specific safety binders and filing systems.
• Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate all subcontractors pre-construction safety planning meetings, acting as a resource for field operations with compliance on OSHA and state/local regulations.
• Review all Site-Specific Safety Programs and Job Hazard Analysis prior to mobilization.
• Conduct site evaluations, follow up and tracking of corrections and deficiencies.
• Attend and monitor Toolbox Talks conducted by employees to assure documentation and quality.
• Perform root cause and accident investigation techniques in the event of a job site accident with risk management.
• Coordinate with Risk Manager for identification of claims trends and proactive risk planning.
• Enforce documentation on training related to scope of work by all staff.
• Conduct training for OSHA 10 or 30 Hour, HAZWOPER, and other safety topics.
