Job summary

Berkel & Company Contractors, Inc. is seeking a Field Safety Specialist to oversee safety across our Maryland Region. You will work with the Superintendent and Project Manager to implement safety policies and ensure adherence to Berkel’s SOPs and safety goals on multiple sites.

You will lead site safety programs, coordinate pre-construction safety planning, conduct training, and investigate incidents with the Risk Manager. Travel to different project sites across the region is required.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in construction health and safety.
• OSHA Outreach Trainer for the Construction Industry.
• CHST certification preferred.
• Knowledge of drilling operations and/or shoring work.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams.
• Must be willing to travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Create, communicate, enforce, and improve site safety programs for multiple projects.
• Maintain project safety binders and filing systems.
• Coordinate pre-construction safety meetings with subcontractors and field operations while ensuring OSHA and local regulations.
• Review site-specific safety programs and job hazard analyses before mobilization.
• Conduct site evaluations, track corrections, and follow up on safety deficiencies.
• Attend toolbox talks and ensure proper documentation and quality.
• Lead incident investigations with risk management support and documentation.
• Collaborate with Risk Manager to identify claims trends and plan risk mitigation.
• Ensure all staff training is properly documented and up to date.
• Deliver OSHA 10/30 and other safety training as required.
