Job summary

The Office of the County Engineer in Houston seeks a Safety Inspector to support Harris County's Worksite Safety Policy. This field-based role ensures construction and facilities meet OSHA standards and internal safety requirements.

Collaborating with project managers, contractors, and county safety staff, the inspector conducts site visits, documents findings, issues corrective actions, and helps train personnel on fall protection, PPE, and hazard recognition.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related field.
• Equivalent combination of technical training and safety experience may substitute for education.
• Minimum two years of construction safety field experience including inspections and incident investigations.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification required; CHST/OHST/ASP-CSHO/BCSP preferred within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Conduct random and scheduled site safety visits and inspections.
• Notify stakeholders of violations and require corrective action.
• Receive and investigate worker complaints; document in tracking system.
• Photograph and document site conditions; prepare inspection reports within 5 business days.
• Work with project managers to address safety concerns and train staff on PPE and hazard recognition.
