Job summary

BurnBot is hiring for a senior robotics perception engineer to own the perception stack on outdoor machines in California. You will work with sensors including camera, lidar, thermal, and radar to detect vegetation, terrain, obstacles, fire, and people.

You will deploy models on embedded compute with real-time constraints and contribute to field data labeling and evaluation. The role emphasizes strong C++/Python, ROS/ROS2, and hands-on field debugging across remote field deployments in

Qualifications

• 5+ years building perception for robots or vehicles outside a lab.
• Strong C++ and Python programming.
• Deep learning for detection/segmentation; know when classical methods suit best.
• Multi-sensor calibration and fusion; comfort with geometric reasoning.
• ROS or ROS 2 and tooling around field data (bags, replay, visualization).

Responsibilities

• Own the perception stack: sensors, models, and data engine.
• Develop detection and segmentation for vegetation, terrain, obstacles, fire, and people.
• Ensure deployment onto embedded compute with real latency and power budgets.
• Provide honest evaluation with real metrics on field data.
