Job summary

Maricopa County is seeking a Roadway Technician to join the Transportation Department. You will operate county equipment to construct and maintain roads and related structures, and install and manage traffic control in construction zones according to MUTCD and county procedures.

The role emphasizes safety, daily inspections, and readiness for emergencies; you will support response drills, prepare work orders, and coordinate with teams to keep roads open and safe for the public.

Qualifications

• One year of traffic control experience or two years road maintenance experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Must possess or obtain Arizona Driver's license by hire.

Responsibilities

• Install and maintain traffic control signing and barricades in work zones.
• Inspect barricades, lights, signs, and sign spacing daily for proper setup.
• Create work orders, daily reports, and document inspections in Cartegraph.
• Respond to emergencies; be on call 24 hours for requests.
• Install and program message boards and speed monitors for events.
• Operate trucks and power tools following safety procedures.
