Job summary
Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer to lead planning, design, analysis, and review of traffic projects. You’ll mentor staff, coordinate with partners, and apply advanced techniques to improve traffic flow and safety across the county’s network.
The role requires a Civil Engineering degree, 2+ years of experience, and a PE license (Arizona or eligible).
Qualifications
- Two years of civil engineering experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, or by the technical board of another state, with the ability to obtain Arizona registration within six months of employment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review traffic engineering plans for high complexity projects (signals, pavement marking, signing, intersection improvements, safety projects).
- Develop design concepts, review studies and analyses, and recommend countermeasures with engineering judgment.
- Supervise staff/consultants and lead quality control across design and review phases.
