Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Commissioning Lead for HV, BESS, and PV projects in the United States. You will plan and oversee testing, manage commissioning teams, and coordinate with engineering, construction, QA, and stakeholders to ensure alignment with schedules and safety standards.

Eligible candidates have 3+ years of utility-scale experience, strong electrical knowledge, and proven team management.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work full-time on a jobsite, travel, and stay out of town for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform the listed physical demands, including lifting 50+ lbs and working near medium and high voltage.

Job description

  • Support planning, execution, and oversight of testing and commissioning activities for HV, BESS, and PV projects
  • Manage project commissioning teams and provide guidance, training, and support
  • Report project status daily to the Commissioning Manager
  • Review technical, contractual, and regulatory commissioning requirements
  • Assist with milestone and deliverables lists, project commissioning plans, procedures, schedules, and resource plans
  • Communicate with OEM suppliers regarding equipment-specific testing and commissioning
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with engineering, construction, quality assurance, and other stakeholders
  • Assist with P6 testing and commissioning schedules and update them weekly
  • Review initial energization procedures and assist with switching activities
  • Perform MVAC collection circuit and auxiliary power switching activities; develop switching plans and LOTO as required
  • Identify technical issues and recommend corrective actions
  • Manage pre-commissioning, cold, warm, and hot commissioning tests, including synchronization, functional, utility capability, and project acceptance testing
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations
  • Prepare daily commissioning reports and review test results, issues, and corrective actions
  • Monitor project timelines and resources
  • Improve commissioning processes using feedback and lessons learned
  • Maintain lessons learned and equipment warranty tracking logs
  • Establish and manage Safety Tagging, Lockout, Red Rope, and Work Permit Programs through project substantial completion
  • Reinforce safe work practices and support technical, quality, and safety activities on site
Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in testing and commissioning on utility scale electrical systems
  • Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, inverters, transformers, and electrical infrastructure
  • Proven experience managing project teams and coordinating with multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations
  • Knowledge and experience with HV and MV switching operations and equipment grounding
  • Knowledge and experience with site lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) safety program procedures
  • Knowledge of substation protection and control (P&C) systems
