Job summary

CHS Inc. is seeking a Field Research Intern to join the Product Development team for Summer 2027. The intern will gain experience across all CHS research and development aspects to ensure high-quality products are brought to market.

The role involves collaboration with technical specialists, account managers, dealers, and growers across multiple states. The internship provides exposure to data collection, field trials, and data analysis, with a culminating presentation at a company meeting.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in relevant coursework in a 2- or 4-year higher education institution.
• Interest in agricultural business.

Responsibilities

• Assist technical product specialist with day-to-day activities including coordinating replicated third party research trials to assess CHS products.
• Visiting plots to collect data and visuals.
• Analyzing data and creating tools to support product sales.
• Help conduct small scale replicated research including trial setup, pesticide applications, treatment evaluations, trial maintenance and more.
• Learn features and benefits of all CHS products.
• Learn about CHS crop protection product development pipeline.
• Assist with product applications as needed.
• Travel mainly throughout South Dakota, possibly to North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska; learning from other specialists as opportunities arise.
• Responsible for an individual project over the summer, culminating in a presentation in a meeting.
• Other duties as assigned

Summary

CHS is looking for a Field Research Intern to join the Product Development team for the Summer of 2027. The Field Research Intern will gain experience across all aspects of CHS research and development to ensure we are bringing the highest quality products to market. The individual will have the opportunity to spend time with various technical specialists across Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa, learning how a product concept is taken from an idea to reality. The individual will develop strong agronomic knowledge and understanding of how a technical specialist forms a partnership of replicated research with account managers, technical specialists, dealers, and growers.

Responsibilities

• Assist technical product specialist with day-to-day activities including: Coordinating replicated third party research trials to assess the efficacy of CHS products including adjuvants, starter fertilizers, micronutrients, biologicals, inoculants, seed treatments, and fertilizer additives. As well as assist with coordinating field scale side by side and strip trials.
• Visiting plots to collect data and visuals.
• Analyzing data and creating tools to support product sales.
• Help conduct small scale replicated research including trial setup, pesticide applications, treatment evaluations, trial maintenance & more.
• Learn features and benefits of all CHS products.
• Learn about CHS crop protection product development pipeline.
• Assist with product applications as needed.
• Travel mainly throughout South Dakota, but could be required to travel into North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska; if opportunity to learn from other technical specialists allows.
• Responsible for an individual project throughout the summer, culminating in a presentation delivered in a company or group meeting.
• Other duties as assigned

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
