Job summary

Thomas & Hutton is seeking a seasoned Construction Observer/Project Administrator to support land development projects. You will perform field observations, liaise with PMs, engineers, and contractors, and assist with contract administration and documentation.

The role emphasizes strong communication, reading engineering plans, and coordinating multiple disciplines to meet schedules. A Construction Management background is preferred and a valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of construction observation/management experience preferred.
  • Experience with erosion controls, pavement construction, and utilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction observation services for land development projects.
  • Liaise between Project Managers, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Assist with administration of contracts and project documentation.
  • Review project conditions and communicate field observations.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Attend meetings with clients, contractors, and regulators.
  • Maintain field logs and stay familiar with plans and specs.
  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines on complex land development projects.
  • Visit project sites regularly to monitor progress and compliance.
  • Manage time to meet project schedules and client expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you’ll do:
  • Perform construction observation services for land development projects involving utility installation, grading, drainage, and pavement construction
  • Serve as a liaison between Project Managers, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders
  • Assist with the administration of construction contracts and project documentation
  • Review project conditions and communicate field observations to the project team
  • Prepare project-related correspondence, reports, and documentation
  • Attend and participate in meetings with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies
  • Arrange and conduct job progress meetings as needed
  • Maintain daily field logs and become thoroughly familiar with project plans and specifications
  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines on complex land development projects
  • Visit project sites regularly to monitor construction progress and compliance
  • Manage time effectively to meet project schedules and client expectations

Perform other duties as assigned in support of project delivery

What you bring:

Construction Management degree preferred, or High School Diploma with relevant construction experience

  • 5+ years construction observation/management experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in construction observation, construction management, or a related field
  • Familiarity with erosion, sedimentation, and pollution-control practices
  • Familiarity with pavement construction and utility installation
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prepare concise and accurate reports
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
