Job summary

Thomas & Hutton is seeking an entry-level surveying assistant to support field crews across the Southeast. You’ll work outdoors collecting critical data for infrastructure and community projects, operating survey equipment, and assisting with various field surveys.

The role requires a high school diploma, a valid driver's license, and strong math and communication skills. A positive work ethic and flexibility to work overtime are essential for success in this hands-on position.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience outdoors preferred.
  • Previous land surveying experience preferred.
  • Experience with Carlson SurvCE, robotic total stations, and Trimble GPS a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license required (driving).
  • Strong math skills and attention to detail.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work overtime when required.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a two- to three-person survey crew assisting with land surveying activities.
  • Assist with boundary, topographic, construction staking, and other field surveys.
  • Operate and assist with survey equipment including robotic total stations, GPS equipment, and data collectors.
  • Carry supplies, hold equipment, drive stakes, and assist with clearing survey lines as needed.
  • Record field measurements and maintain survey documentation.
  • Maintain and transport survey equipment safely to job sites.
  • Coordinate with the survey crew and project teams to complete assignments efficiently and accurately.

What You'll Do:
  • Work as part of a two- to three-person survey crew assisting with a variety of land surveying activities

What You Bring:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical activity in a wide range of temperatures and outdoor work environments
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to climb hills and walk long distances across varied terrain
  • Ability to traverse wooded areas, construction sites, and undeveloped land
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to work in environments that may contain venomous snakes and insects such as ticks, red bugs, wasps, bees, hornets, and yellow jackets

Schedule:

A regular schedule of Monday–Thursday 6:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., plus overtime as needed
