Job summary

VoltaGrid in Abilene, TX is seeking a Relay & Power System Technician to install, test, troubleshoot, and repair protection relays, controls, and switchgear for Medium Voltage systems in generation, distribution, and substations. The role supports engineering and field operations across multiple sites.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years in power generation/distribution and 5+ years as a relay technician, plus experience with MV/LV switchgear and protective relays.

Qualifications

• Ten years of experience in power generation/distribution
• Five years’ experience as a relay technician
• Extensive knowledge of breakers, switchgear, CT/PT circuits, and transformers
• Preference for experience with SEL Relay product line
• Significant MV switchgear and distribution systems experience
• Field troubleshooting of protection relay logic and control wiring
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Install and test new electrical protection relays and controls
• Troubleshoot and repair existing protection and control systems
• Test, troubleshoot and repair LV and MV breakers, switchgear, and CT/PT circuits
• Assist engineering and operations with equipment commissioning
• Create as-built protection/control schematics
• Support power generation fleets and site operations
• Document test procedures and results
• Provide technical support to the remote operations center as needed
