Job summary

HarbisonWalker International is seeking a Refractory Technician to join our Value Added Services Team. The role is customer facing, labor-intensive, and located at customer sites; you’ll be responsible for lining, relining and repairing furnaces, ladles and tundishes under Lead guidance.

You will perform refractory installation methods (gunite, pouring, ram, etc.), maintain safe work practices, and document findings and maintenance tasks while ensuring quality and site standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to safely use brick saw and bricklaying equipment.
• Working knowledge of refractory lined units.
• Ability to operate a jib crane and rig loads safely.
• Ability to operate a forklift.
• Ability to operate various hand and electrical tools.
• Read and follow work orders accurately.
• Identify unsafe conditions and correct them.
• Organized with emphasis on quality.
• Basic computer skills; Excel a plus.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret refractory lining drawings and lay brick.
• Install refractory using gunite, pouring, ram, and other methods.
• Prepare ladles, furnaces, tundishes for repair and relining.
• Document post-mortem tear outs and findings.
• Maintain tools and equipment; document maintenance.
• Inventory spare parts and tools; report usage.
• Uphold safety policies and participate in toolbox talks.
