Job description

Overview

Position Overview: Responsible for serving as the primary onsite quality support to all team members and the crafts by managing the development and implementation of the Site-Specific Quality Plan and by researching/answering questions regarding quality. The Field Quality Manager (FQM) is a member of the project management team, able to work with minimal supervision, and takes the lead role in managing project quality and establishing the expected level of workmanship. This position requires the incumbent to develop thorough knowledge of the project and schedule as they apply to QA/QC.

Location & Travel Details

You'll have the opportunity to travel across the US, helping our team build renewable projects. This is a traveling position, up to 100% of the time, with potential placement on any project site in the US. You will spend an average of 8-12 months per project. We offer a per diem to support living expenses, and the position includes routine travel home (rotation). A company vehicle and fuel card will be provided.

Responsibilities
  1. Promote and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  2. Manage the Site-Specific Quality Plan to ensure products and services meet standards and client expectations.
  3. Read and understand plans and specifications, visualizing 3D from 2D drawings.
  4. Develop understanding of contract plans and specifications.
  5. Inspect field conditions, identify problems, and take corrective actions.
  6. Inspect work for compliance, identify deficiencies, and address them.
  7. Listen to team suggestions and concerns, evaluate, and plan actions.
  8. Observe installed systems for hazards and adjustments needed.
  9. Produce quality work meeting standards and specifications.
  10. Understand MasTec Quality Control Manual and procedures.
  11. Mentor and train QA/QC inspectors.
  12. Prepare and review the Monthly Project Quality Report.
  13. Conduct quality walkarounds and participate in weekly reviews.
  14. Perform field inspections and tests aligned with construction schedules.
  15. Conduct weekly quality audits.
  16. Ensure timely testing and interpretation to minimize impacts.
  17. Train supervision and craftsmen on quality processes.
  18. Contribute QA/QC input to task planning.
  19. Develop instructions and procedures for specific activities as needed.
  20. Maintain project and corporate QA/QC files.
  21. Review and approve third-party test results.
  22. Identify and issue Quality Alerts and nonconformance notices.
  23. Train Field Engineers on quality requirements.
  24. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in relevant fields.
  • At least two years of quality experience in construction or operations.
  • Trade certifications preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Commitment to health and safety, aligned with MasTec's Zero Injury principles.
  • Organizational, managerial, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of construction codes (ACI, AWS, ASME, NEC, etc.).
  • Understanding of crafts, processes, inspection, and testing techniques.
  • Familiarity with quality metrics, lean principles, and continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality documentation software.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, regulations, and technical documents.
  • Strong communication skills for reporting and collaboration.
  • Ability to train and mentor staff and collaborate with all project levels.
  • Mathematical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret instructions in various formats.

  • Exposure to hazards and physical risks on jobsites, requiring safety precautions.
  • Potential exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, and loud noises.
